Guidelines for Developing a <strong>Critical</strong> <strong>Incident</strong> Management Plan for a Safe School EnvironmentFollow-up Action• Ensure the victim is safe and not at risk <strong>of</strong> a recurrence.• If the victim reports the crime weeks later, find out what motivated the victim toreport the case at this time.• Try to restore calm to the victim and remove the victim from anything that wouldremind the victim <strong>of</strong> the incident.• The clothes the victim was wearing at the time <strong>of</strong> the incident should be safely putaway, as evidence. This includes undergarments.• Rape should be reported to the Centre <strong>of</strong> Investigation for Sexual Offences.• Victims <strong>of</strong> rape need to see pr<strong>of</strong>essional counsellors and should stay in therapy untilthe sessions terminated by the therapist.<strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong> 2007 / 76
