Oblong form with engraved floral, bird <strong>and</strong> butterfly decoration. Twoh<strong>and</strong>les with heavily embossed floral motifs, <strong>and</strong> rim heavily embossed with Chinese figures in a garden setting. Engraveddedication in center; "Presented to Mr. John Liddell by the employes(sic) of Messrs Liddell Bros & Co. on the eve of hismarriage to Miss Marion Hellyer as a token of their esteem & regard Shanghai 7th January 1897". Marked en verso: HungChong, 800, with Chinese hallmarks. 23-1/4" W x 13" D. 57.53 oz troy. Note: H.A. Crosby Forbes' book, Chinese Export Silver1785-1885, lists Hung Chong as a well known jeweler with addresses in both Canton <strong>and</strong> Shanghai in the last half the 19thcentury <strong>and</strong> first quarter of the 20th century. Liddell Bros. was a British based firm specializing in exports from China in thesame period.2: Luen Wo & Hung Chong Chinese Export Plates USD 500 - 800Luen Wo, Shanghai & Hung Chong Co., Shanghai Chinese Export Silver Plates, both with scalloped edge <strong>and</strong> vine <strong>and</strong> floralrepousse decoration on a granulated ground. 8-7/8" diameter. A naturalistic carved rose branch with fourflowers, each in different stages of bloom. Blue "Made in Japan" label fixed to one leaf. 14-1/4" L x 6" H x 7-1/2" W. Stampedbox measures 10" H x 16-1/4" W x 9-1/2" D. Japanese, 20th century.
