<strong>Fall</strong> <strong>Fine</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Antique</strong>s <strong>Auction</strong>320: 20 Linocut Prints, Maryl<strong>and</strong> <strong>Art</strong> Inst. w/Lee Gatch USD 500 - 800A bound collection of twenty prints made from linoleum blocks, designed <strong>and</strong> cut by the students of the Maryl<strong>and</strong> Institute <strong>Art</strong>,entitled "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner." This collection was assembled between the years of 1920-1924. Included are worksby Lee Gatch, Charles O. Robinson, Tyron Wilson, Larry Murphy, Robert S. Geass, Paul H. Maky, Sheldon E. Schafer, <strong>and</strong>Harrietta Benson. Lee Gatch (1902-1968) is one of the Maryl<strong>and</strong> Institute of <strong>Art</strong>'s most noted alumni. While at the Maryl<strong>and</strong>Institute of <strong>Art</strong>, Gatch studied under Leon Kroll <strong>and</strong> John Sloan. After graduation, he traveled to France to study at the AmericanSchool at Fontainebleau <strong>and</strong> at the Académie Modern with Moise Kisling <strong>and</strong> André Lhote, a cubist academician. Possibly oneof Gatch's earliest known works. Linocuts measure 9" H x 7" W.321: John Baeder, Empire Diner USD 300 - 400"Empire Diner", photo mezzotint, by John Baeder (American, 20th c.). Unsigned but bears similarities to works byCharles Baxter (English, 1809-1879). Miniature painting measures approximately 3" x 2 1/8", overall framed dimensions 11" x13 1/2".
