Pegged top with figured, scratch beaded <strong>and</strong> dovetailed drawers,fronts, with replaced glass knobs, resting on ring <strong>and</strong> rope turned legs <strong>and</strong> ball feet. Stamped on inside top drawer "HarryBenedict, Marion, Ohio" 28 7/8" H x 19 1/2" W x 17 3/8" D. 2nd Qtr. 19th century.291: Pair of Classical period footstools, signed USD 200 - 300Pair of Classical highly figured mahogany veneered footstools, signed "K Hay, York". Rectangular with black poly/silkupholstered foot rests, accented with brass tacks at edge, molded exposed wood skirts on demilune feet.. H 6" x W 14" x D 10".Mid 19th century. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn.292: Classical Boston Dressing Bureau USD 1,000 - 1,500Classical mahogany veneered dresser or dressing bureau, mahogany, poplar, <strong>and</strong> white pine secondary. Looking glasssupported by turned posts with carved capitals, atop a bank of two recessed drawers, the lower case with two projectingdrawers over three graduated drawers flanked by tapering columns with carved capitals. Drawers are dovetailed <strong>and</strong> fitted withbrass ring pulls. Bulbous ring turned feet. Original pulls. French polished. 77"h x 45 1/4"w x 22 1/8"d. Smith probably drifted into chairmaking from the 'carpentry business', but soon dropped from sight <strong>and</strong> may have resurfaced later in Chicago, Illinois, in thegrocery business". Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn., ex-Benjamin Caldwell Jr.294: American Classical Cheval mirror USD 1,200 - 1,800Cheval mirror in the French taste, highly figured mahogany with flat cornice over a crest with applied gilt bronze sw<strong>and</strong>ecoration, finely cast ormolu mounted columns, tilting rectangular looking glass, curule form base. Back of mirror covered withpleated silk (possibly not original). French polished. 72 1/2"H x 38 1/2" W x 24" D. American, circa 1830. Provenance: estate ofA. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn., purchased from American Classical II, Nashville, Tennessee.295: American Classical Secretary-Bookcase USD 4,000 - 6,000American Secretary-bookcase, mahogany with yellow pine <strong>and</strong> poplar secondary woods. Flat projecting cornice over a friezeadorned with gilt brass applied cast Classical decoration, over two glazed doors with diamond shaped mullions. Doors areflanked by stiles capped with gilt brass figural busts <strong>and</strong> wreaths at top. Interior has shelves <strong>and</strong> interiors of doors are lined inyellow silk. Fold out writing surface with compartments for ink. Single dovetailed drawer over two cabinet doors (lined with silkon the interior), on a plinth base with rounded feet. Paneled sides. 89"H x 48"W x 21"D. Probably Baltimore, circa 1825.Provenance: estate of A. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn.296: Sheraton Mahogany Butler's Sideboard/Desk USD 800 - 1,200Sheraton mahogany butler's sideboard or desk with white pine <strong>and</strong> poplar secondary. Two dovetailed drawers over a fitted fallfront desk above three drawers flanked by doors with applied turned <strong>and</strong> roped pilasters, all resting on turned feet.
