All pieces with a molded geometricred glaze, simulating carved cinnabar. Lacquer, <strong>and</strong> gilt highlights with robin's egg blue interior. Mountain l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>and</strong> lake scene withl<strong>and</strong>scape reflected in the water. Signed lower right "R F Ingerle". Paper label with artist's bio en verso. Period molded giltframe. 27-1/4" H x 31-3/8" W sight, 32" H x 36" W framed. Ingerle, sometimes called 'The Painter of the Smokies', was born to aMoravian family, immigrated to the U.S. as a child <strong>and</strong> studied at the <strong>Art</strong> Institute of Chicago. He was an early founder of theIndiana School of Painting in Brown County <strong>and</strong> the Society of Ozark Painters. Ingerle first visited the Smoky Mountains in 1920<strong>and</strong> fell in love with Eastern Tennessee <strong>and</strong> Western North Carolina. At that time, the natural beauty of the area was threatenedby logging companies. Ingerle painted numerous l<strong>and</strong>scapes there <strong>and</strong> is among the artists credited with raising awareness ofthe need for protection, which helped result in the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1934. His workwas exhibited in one man shows at the Mint Museum <strong>and</strong> Hickory Museum of <strong>Art</strong> during his lifetime, <strong>and</strong> was featured in the2006 <strong>Art</strong> of Tennessee exhibit at the Frist Center for the Visual <strong>Art</strong>s.33: Carl Sublett watercolor, urban l<strong>and</strong>scape USD 350 - 450Carl Sublett (Tennessee, 1919-2008), watercolor l<strong>and</strong>scape with trees, industrial buildings <strong>and</strong> highway. Signed lower right, "81Sublett". 22" H x 29-3/4" W sight, 30-1/4" H x 37-1/8" W framed. Burlwood frame with linen matte. 1981. Carl Sublett studied <strong>Art</strong>History at the American Academy in Florence, Italy after World War II, <strong>and</strong> became Professor of <strong>Fine</strong> <strong>Art</strong> at the University ofTennessee. Sublett was a member of the National Academy of Design.
