(Biography - James Albert Caulfield III was born inDetroit, Michigan and lived most of his early life in East Lansing until he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1985. As a child heloved to draw and sketch and received formal art training at Michigan State University and Lansing Community College. Hetrained and worked as an illustrator and commercial artist and painted with watercolor and gouache in a "realistic controlledmanner". Books illustrated by Stilson include "Our Fern and TheirHaunts" by Willard N. Chute and "The Writers of Knickerbocker New York" by Hamilton Wright Mabie. An extensive biography ofStilson was done in a June 1925 article of the Bridgeport Life Newspaper of Bridgeport, Connecticut reviewing Stilson's artistic,poetic, and musical genius.
