At Ahmadabad 85came to him and consoled him. Hazrat Imam ASgave him gladtidings. The difficulties Malik RZ underwent are well known.Hazrat Bandagi Miyan Syed Khundmir RZ 1 has narrated in thematter of the Khilafat of Malik Gawhar RZ that Hazrat Imam AS hadcounted him as his fourth Khalifa. The khilafat of Malik RZ lastedfor four years after the death of Hazrat Imam AS . He died on the 4 thof Zil-hajja, 2 914 AH at Thatta [in Sindh, now in Pakistan]. HazratMehri RZ , a companion of Hazrat Imam AS , has extracted the year ofMalik Gawhar RZ ’s death in the following poem: “Malik Gawhar RZis the mine of Divine Love [‘ishq]. He is among the six ministersof Hazrat Imam AS . He was firm like a mountain in the matter of theImam AS . For him the world was like an insignificant straw. He wasconstantly in the Grand Haj pilgrimage [Haj-e-Akbar]. He died inthis month of Zil-hajja. He was a Khalifa of Hazrat Imam Mahdi AS .The date is: “Za Khulfa-e-Ad’o-il-Allah bud.” The values of theArabic letters totals to 914 AH. There are many narratives aboutthe glad tidings Hazrat Imam AS has given in his favour. We havenot repeated them for the sake of brevity.13.3 Miyan Haji Mali RZHere we are dealing with the event of Miyan Haji Mali RZ ’s meetingwith Hazrat Imam Mahdi AS .Hazrat Miyan Haji Mali RZ was an Arif-e-‘Ashiq, Talib-e-Sadiq. 3He was a seeker of the vision of Allah. He used to be always in1 The titles, the author has given to Hazrat Bandagi Miyan Syed Khundmir RZ atthis point are: Sultan-e-Nasir [Sultaanan-nasiiraa—a helpful authority. —Translation by AMD. Quran, 17: 80 AMD]. In his Tafsir, Nur-e-Iman,Maulana Syed Miranji Abid Khundmiri writes, “For Prophet Muhammad SLMthe helpful authority is the Hazrat Mahdi AS , as the purpose of the advent ofMahdi al-Mau'ood AS is to provide help for the religion of Allah. —Page 401,note 3. Badr-e-Minir [Full Moon]; ulil-‘amri—those in authority: Quran, S. 4:59 AYA.2Zil-hajja is the 12 th month of the Muslim calendar commencing from themigration of Prophet Muhammad SLM from Makkah to Madina.3 Arif means a mystic. ‘Ashiq is a Lover, Devotee. Talib is a seeker and sadiq isTruthful.86Shawahid Al-Vilayatquest of the Vision of God. Whenever he saw or met an ‘alim, faqih [expert in the Fiqh—Islamic Law], mashayakh [preceptor] ora Faqir [a Muslim Holy Man], he would ask him, “Is there anyoneamong you who can show me God?” Nobody ever gave him aproper answer. This was so because as Allah has said, “…I call toAllah resting upon the Vision…” 1 none other than the da’iy [onewho invites people (unto Allah), that is, Hazrat Imam AS ] canmanifest the Vision of Allah in this world. Miyan Haji Mali RZ hadheard that Ka’batullah is called Baithullah [the House of God].Then he decided to go to Makkah and achieve the honour of theVision of Allah. [His reasoning was that there was no housewithout its Owner. On the basis of this, he intended to perform theHaj Pilgrimage.Meanwhile, he was watering the plants in a garden. He saw aperson, clad in the dress of an indigent faqir in the garden. As hewas a seeker of Allah he rushed to the Faqir. He asked the samequestion. The Faqir said, “O crazy man! It is not for everybody toshow God. If you are a true seeker of Allah, go to Hazrat SyedMuhammad Khuda Bakhsh [one who grants the Vision of God]who is staying near this garden. He alone shows God.” When heheard this, Miyan Mali RZprepared two floral crowns and twogarlands and started to meet the Imam AS . On the way what he seesis that the Imam ASis sitting in a palanquin, his companionssurrounding him. He came near him and asked, “Who is the oneamong you who shows God?” Then the Imam AS said, “Come andsee!” Miyan Mali RZ came near the Imam AS and achieved thehonour of seeing the Imam AS . Then he said, “We have achieved ourobjective!” The Imam ASaccepted the two floral crowns andgarlands. The Imam AS put on one floral crown on his own head andthe garland around his neck. He gave the other set to Hazrat MiyanHaji Mali RZ . He lived for three days only after this. He wasinitiated into the Order of the Imam AS . He fell into a divine ecstasyand died in the same condition.1 Quran, S. 12: 108.
At Ahmadabad 87At this Hazrat Imam Mahdi ASsaid, “His resourcefulness waslimited. There was no room. He could not bear the intensity of themanifestations of God.” Again he said, “He was a true seeker andhe reached his destination soon.” Further, the Imam AS gave him thetitle of Haji Mali. He was called a Haji because he had achievedthe purport of the Haj here alone.Quite a few days after he was buried, a brother happened to go bythe grave of Miyan Haji Mali RZ . He was astonished to see that theflowers that were placed at the grave on the day of his burial werestill fresh. They had not even wilted. He returned and told theImam AS about it. Hazrat Imam Mahdi AS ordered that the graveshould be razed to the ground. “Let it not so happen that peoplestart worshipping it. Miyan Haji Mali RZ is not there [in the grave].The moment his back had touched the ground, Allah Most Highhad accepted him. Since he loved the flowers, they were fresh evennow on his grave. Erase his grave. There are many other narrativesrelating to this place. But for brevity, they have not beenreproduced here. In short, many people achieved their objective [ofthe Vision of God through physical eyes in this world].13.4 Qazi BudhanQazi Budhan, the ruler of Ahmadabad, narrates that Hazrat ImamMahdi ASwas camping at the mosque of Taj Khan Salar atAhmadabad. Qazi Budhan was the disciple of Qazi Sulaiman aliasIslam Khan, a resident of Mahmoodabad. When Qazi Budhanstarted from Mahmoodabad to go to Ahmadabad, he went to meetIslam Khan before going to Ahmadabad. Islam Khan told QaziBudhan, “Hazrat Miran Syed Muhammad ASis camping at themosque of Taj Khan Salar. You first go to Hazrat Imam Mahdi ASand touch his feet. Please also convey my salutations to him. Afterthat, you may go to any place you like.” Accordingly, QaziBudhan Khan first went to meet the Imam AS . He reached themosque a little after noon and stayed there. In a gesture of respect,he did not inform the Imam AS of his arrival. He was waiting withthe hope that the Imam AS would come for the zuhr prayers and the88Shawahid Al-VilayatQazi could meet him then. Meanwhile, a person clad in the dressof a holy man came, and, under the command of Allah, asked thedetails about the Imam AS from the Qazi. Then he said, “Call theImam AS to come out. I want to ask the Imam AS about the Vision ofAllah through the physical eyes.” The Qazi told the holy man,“Give up the thought. No person has the power to ask the Imam ASabout this subject. If you want to meet him, the Imam AS will comefor the prayers. You can touch his feet then.” The holy man said, “Iam in a hurry to go.” This conversation was still going on, whenImam AS unusually came out all of a sudden. Both the Qazi and theholy man turned their attention to the Imam AS . Even before theholy man asked about the Vision of Allah, the Imam AS said on hisown, “The vision of Allah happens in this world.” Then theImam ASgave a detailed sermon on the subject. The holy manaccepted what the Imam AS had said. He became a musaddiq of theImam AS before going.Hazrat Imam Mahdi AS is narrated to have gone to the SabarmatiRiver for a bath. He saw a stranger there. The Imam AS called himand said, “Come here. Sit down. Rub my back.” He came and didas asked. Later, the Imam AS told him, “Now sit down we will rubyour back.” When the Imam AS placed his hand on his back to tub it,He [the stranger] became unconscious. The veils on his eyes gotremoved. The whole unknown universe opened for him and he saweverything. It is narrated that the details about the eminence and superiority ofShaikh al-Mashayakh, Shaikh Ahmad Khattu RAwas discussed inthe august presence of Hazrat Imam Mahdi AS . The Shaikh RA is laidto eternal rest at the Sarkhich village near Ahmadabad. HazratImam Mahdi ASsaid about him, “He struggled as a wrestler andfought relentlessly, saved his Faith [iman] and departed [from thisworld].” The Imam AS said, “He was a zahid [abstinent devotee].”About Shah Alam RA , Hazrat Imam AS is narrated to have said that hewas an ‘ashiq-Allah [a person in devout Love of God].In a very short time, the fame of the Imam AS spread in Ahmadabadthat a man has come and nobody who sees him can excel him in
