The Nashoba sanitarian is generally scheduled to be availablefor the on Wednesday mornings at the Shirley Board of HealthOffice. Other meetings occur informally.This does not reflect the daily calls handled by the three Nashobasecretaries during daily business hours.Food Service Licenses& Inspections …………….27 Nashobaannually mails out and receives application from both restaurantsand retail food businesses. Licenses are renewed for existingfacilities. Plans are submitted and reviewed prior to initiallicensing. Most licensees are inspected at a minimum twice a year.Where deficiencies are found, a re-inspection is scheduled toinsure compliance. When a complaint from the public is receivedan inspection is also conducted. During this inspection healthfactors of food handlers is also investigated, and where appropriatemedical consultation and laboratory testing may be required.Pool/Camp Inspections...........................................5Camps are inspected at least annually at opening for compliancewith State Sanitary Code, Chapter IV, 105CMR430.00. Public and Semipublicpool are licensed and inspected on an annual basis in accordance withState Sanitary Code, Chapter V, 105CMR435.00.Housing & Nuisance Investigations........................9Nashoba, as agent for the local Board of Health, inspects dwellingsfor conformance with State Sanitary Code, 105 CMR 410.00, issues ordersfor correction, and re-inspect for compliance. Similarly, complaints fromresidents concerning unsanitary conditions or pollution events areinvestigated.Septic System Test Applications..............................9Applications from residents proposing to build or upgrade a septicsystem are accepted, a file created, and testing dates are coordinated with theapplicants engineer.Septic System Lot Tests...............................16Nashoba sanitarian witnesses soil evaluations, deep holetests, and, usually on a separate date, percolation tests conducted bythe applicant’s engineer which serve as the basis of the design of theseptic system.Septic System Plan Applications …………………8Detailed plans created by engineers hired by residents proposing tobuild or upgrade a septic system are received, filed, and routed to theNashoba sanitarian for review.Septic System Plan Reviews........................8Engineered plans are reviewed according to state code, Title5, and local Board of Health regulations and review forms arecreated and sent to engineer for revision.
