OPENING A DIRECT AIR LINK BETWEEN<br />
<strong>Vietnam</strong> AND THE UK (LONDON)<br />
<strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>Airlines</strong> will officially open direct flights from Hanoi and Ho<br />
Chi Minh City (<strong>Vietnam</strong>) to the United Kingdom in December 2011.<br />
London Gatwick Airport has been chosen for flight operation<br />
to/from the UK. <strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>Airlines</strong> plans to use Boeing B777-200ER<br />
aircraft to fly from Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports to Gatwick.<br />
Four flights a week are initially scheduled.<br />
<strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>Airlines</strong> General Director Pham Ngoc Minh said: “Direct<br />
flights from <strong>Vietnam</strong> to the UK will contribute to improving and developing<br />
<strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>Airlines</strong>’ network. London will be <strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>Airlines</strong>’<br />
fourth gateway in Europe along with Paris, Franfurt and<br />
Moscow and it will also strengthen <strong>Vietnam</strong> as a main gateway<br />
to/from Indochina”.<br />
Gatwick Airport is 46km south of London downtown, near the city’s<br />
financial centre, and which is among the world’s 10 largest airports.<br />
<strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>Airlines</strong> is urgently synchronising related procedures and<br />
safety work - security as well as ensuring technical conditions,<br />
service and resources to prepare for the launch of the first flight.<br />
<strong>Vietnam</strong> <strong>Airlines</strong> is expected to operate 7 flights/week on this route<br />
in 2014.<br />
