14 Ostend Europe Ostend has a very individual charm, characteristic sea front, mariners, parks, bustling markets and shops, lively nightlife and its centre piece casino. There are also fish and sea food stalls along the pier, a miniature railway, horse drawn carriage rides through the city and many parades, festivals, markets and fairs to enjoy. YOUR ITINERARY: Day 1: We travel south to Dover and take the short sea crossing to Calais from where we continue to Ostend. Day 2: A day at leisure to enjoy the many sights in Ostend. Day 3: Full day tour to Antwerp which is the real urban deal, a refreshingly down-to-earth yet vivacious cosmopolitan habitat blessed with magnificent architecture, fashionable shop fronts, beer-washed Honfleur, Normandy YOUR ITINERARY: Sunday 6th: We travel south to Portsmouth and board the Brittany Ferry for our overnight crossing to Caen. Tuesday 8th: Travelling along the coast to Trouville we make our way to Rouen the site of Joan d’Arc’s demise. YOUR ITINERARY: Thursday 29th: Travel to Hull for the P&O overnight ferry to Rotterdam. Friday 30th: On arrival in Rotterdam, We disembark after breakfast and head to Keukenhof Gardens. Famed for its breathtaking displays of bulbs, Keukenhof has a whopping six million bulbs bloom every year to form a sea of flowers, between March and May. Admire the exuberant colours of spring, and possibly pick up a few tips for home in the seven themed gardens. Keukenhof spring flowers blend beautifully in a landscape of established trees, As if the Grand Place – one of the world’s most beautiful squares – was not spectacular enough, every two years the Belgians cover it with a carpet of flowers. The enterprise involves considerable time and effort, when you think that over 300 square metres have to be covered with a massive 800,000 fresh begonias and covers 300 square metres right in the centre of the Grand Place. The blooms then have to be kept fresh for four days in the scorching August heat, helped by the addition of fountains within the pattern of the carpet. The end result, however, is well worth it.
