LOS immunotyping of N. meningitidis by weEunder the assumption that the combinations L2,B and LA,B do not exist (see Discussion),in which case LB is assigned. The assignment of immunotypes Ll, LS, L6and LlD is based on a positive reaction with the specific moabs described above. AllLlD isolates also reacted with Mn15A17F12. Combinations of immunotypes, such asLl,B, L3,l, L3,l,B and L3,B, are also discernible. A positive reaction with the combinationMnI5AB-l (with or without Mnl5A17F12 or 9-2-L3,7,9) on the oue hand, andMn13H21, 2-1-LB or Mn4DIB3 on the other, is considered non-interpretable in theabsence of a positive reaction with one of the other moabs. Isolates that failed toreact with any moab were labelled nontypeable (NT).lmmunotypes and moab reaction patternsTable 3 shows examples of the reaction patterns of isolates of the various immunotypesand immunotype combinations. For the ITs L2 through L6, isolates with aupurell reaction pattern were found. However, all Ll and LIO and many 13 strainsshowed some reaction with the LB group of moabs (Mn13H21 and 2-1-LB), and manyL8 isolates with the L3 group (Mn4DIB3, MnI5A17FI2, 9-2-L3,7,9, MnI5AB-l),indicating that the isolates under consideration partly express other ITs.Tnble 3.
