The ASC CupImmediately after the WorldChampionships was the ASC Cup. Thisis a two round contest sponsored bythe gentleman who owns the field. Thewindows were 20 minutes and wereflown in the windy part of the day. Thecontestants were the top three juniorpilots and the top five senior pilots. Thatmeans Team USA had two junior pilotsin the ASC Cup. AJ McGowan, just3.9 points out of first, finished second.Brendon Beardsley finished in 6th place.Frequency ControlAll radios, including 2.4 GHz, had to bechecked into the transmitter impoundeach morning. Frequency control was astight as I have seen it. Even with all thetransmitter control, several planes wereshot down from frequency conflicts. Thecompetitors list shows 122 pilots, juniorand senior. Of that amount, ten wereflying 2.4 systems. Countries flying 2.4were Australia, Brazil, Israel, Norway andthe US. None of these pilots encountereda frequency control problem.IstanbulThe team manager, Jim Monaco, did itagain. The team drove back to Istanbulthe night before many had to get on aplane and fly home. Again, Jim Monacomade the arrangements. Several of usstayed for a couple of extra days. TheThe second bus, filled to the roof with plane boxes and suitcases.38 R/C Soaring Digest
