Are your personal detailssafe with us?ConfidentialityAt NatWest, we understand how important it is for youto know that we will keep your account detailsconfidential. We will not pass on information aboutyou to other companies or people outside The RoyalBank of Scotland Group of companies (the “Group”),of which we are a member, unless we have yourpermission to do so, or we are required or permittedto do so. For example:■ to follow legislation aimed at preventing moneylaundering;■ when we have to do so to follow an order of a courtor other authority (such as the Serious Fraud Office);■ when we need to pass on information about you inorder to prevent fraud or get back any money youowe us. Banker’s reference, options andstatus enquiriesWhen making a long-term financial commitment suchas a Rental or Hire Purchase Agreement, the otherparty may wish to know about your ability to makepayments. One of the ways they can do this is byasking us for a reference. We would always ask foryour written permission first, take care to answergenerally and not disclose details of your account.We will charge you for this service. Similarly, youcan request a reference on another person ororganisation from their bank, but your request mustinclude their written permission. It’s worth notingthat this reference is no more than an opinion andis in no way a guarantee of your/their ability tomake payments.29
