Maitri station has given lots of glory toIndia in Antarctic research.In Maitri, I witnessed auroral displays with myteam leader in shivering cold night and we capturedsome beautiful snaps. Aurora is wonderful phenomena ofgeomagnetic activity of earth, which can be seen aroundat seventy degrees latitude. Aurora creates multiple lightingeffects which looks like crackers bursting in the sky. I havecompleted six months in this icy continent and presently weare in the phase of polar nights. We have not seen sunfrom last one month. Out side temperature is around -20to -26 0 C.This journey is a wonderful experience in my life. Ihave interacted with so many people of different countrieswith different cultures. We go out with polar clothing on andsee natural beauty around the Maitri station. One can seelittle wild life around. We are far away from our familiesfor more than a year in harsh environment and isolation.Compared to previous expeditions, now the isolation ismuch reduced due to internet facility available at Maitri.People are able to interact frequently with their loved ones.Frequent e-mail from respected Director General and PROITBP always boost our morale.In Antarctica, most common topic of chitchat isblizzard, name of dangerous snow storm in the Antarcticregion. Every expedition member want to avoid this snowstorm on their station duties but wish to happen on others,so that he can enjoy it from inside the station. Blizzard is asnow storm with thick snowfall and high winds with almostzero visibility. Persons going out may lose their direction ofmovement and lose their way. Our third convoy membersincluding team leader remained stuck for ten days in aheavy blizzard at Shelf in Indian Bay, where our cargo is offloaded from the ship.Here I have to do tough station duties. It is a closedenvironment with intense interaction, so lots of emotionalproblems occur. I have to attend these as medical offi cer.At times my work becomes tougher. Comprehensive healthcheck up with laboratory investigations of all team membersare done on monthly basis. This is a study ground forinterpersonal relationship. Here no one can be moved outin case of any emergency. I have to manage all problemswith the available resources. Here, we learn to becomegood managers. I have become emotionally and mentallya more stable person after coming here. I have learnt theleadership quality from the team leader, Mr Elango, theway he leads the team by example and simplicity.I have completed six months here. I am satisfi edwith my most challenging task. Its great learning platformfor every one. I will always share my experiences when Iget the opportunity.Dr. Neeraj BhargavaNew Transit Camp EstablishedMHA has approved the establishmentof a transit camp at Chamba (Tehri)fortransit purpose only for rainy season(July, August & September) and for winterseason (December, January & February) ina private building. This transit camp willnot be used for the commencement andtermination of leave for ITBP personnel.ITBP to celebrate Golden JubileeITBP will complete 50 years of its existence on 24 th October 2012. To commemorate theoccasion, ITBP will celebrate 'Golden Jubilee'. It is planned to release special commemorativemedal, postal stamp and a coffee table book. ITBP also plans to sponsor a marathon race, arelay LRP covering the entire Indo-Tibet Border. Seminar and ITBP tableau for Republic DayParade will be the other attractions of Golden Jubilee celebration.Raising Day 2010 will be celebrated at BTC, Bhanu, Haryana.10
