6.1.5 In transport from thresh<strong>in</strong>g floor to farm storage, the total loss <strong>of</strong> Ragi was 25.77 thous<strong>and</strong> tonnes <strong>of</strong>total production (Annexure XXIX) or 1.13 percent.6.1.6 The total <strong>losses</strong> <strong>of</strong> Ragi <strong>in</strong> transport from field to farm storage amounted to 39.87 thous<strong>and</strong> tonnes <strong>of</strong>total production (Annexure XXXI) or 1.75 percent.6.1.7 Dur<strong>in</strong>g the study <strong>of</strong> <strong>losses</strong> <strong>of</strong> Ragi <strong>in</strong> storage, the startl<strong>in</strong>g fact com<strong>in</strong>g to fore was that nearly 68.71percent <strong>of</strong> the storage at the farm household cont<strong>in</strong>ued to be <strong>in</strong> kutcha storage <strong>and</strong> 31.29 percentstorage was pucca. The total quantity stored <strong>in</strong> kutcha godown at farm level was 821.87 thous<strong>and</strong>tonnes <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> pucca storage 374.19 thous<strong>and</strong> tonnes (Annexure XXXIII).6.1.8 The total quantity <strong>of</strong> Ragi lost <strong>in</strong> storage was estimated at 12.07 thous<strong>and</strong> tonnes. (Annexure XXXII)which was 0.53 percent <strong>of</strong> total production. The <strong>losses</strong> <strong>in</strong> storage were attributable to driage,rodents, <strong>in</strong>festation, h<strong>and</strong>l<strong>in</strong>g, etc.6.1.9 The total <strong>post</strong> <strong>harvest</strong> <strong>losses</strong> <strong>of</strong> Ragi at producers level were estimated at 86.90 thous<strong>and</strong> tonnes or3.81% <strong>of</strong> production (Annexure XXXVIII). It is to be noted here that the period <strong>of</strong> storage <strong>and</strong>quantity stored was small. Therefore, the storage <strong>losses</strong> at producer’s level appeared 3.81 percent.However, there is a scope to further curtail these <strong>losses</strong> at farm level by scientific storagepractices.
