CHAPTER VIIIMARKETABLE SURPLUS8.1 In earlier chapters, the estimates of production, retention for various purposes, purchases, losses,sales or marketed surplus, etc., have been discussed. In this chapter, estimates of marketable surplusare discussed. Marketable Surplus is derived from the formula :MS = A-BWhere A is total production;B is total retention, plus total purchases and total losses at farm level or producers level.MS is marketable Surplus.8.2 The estimated marketable surplus – category-wise and total of all categories of farmers takentogether is furnished in Annexures LV, LVI, LVII and LVIII respectively. Similarly, the total marketable surplus of Ragi was 670.14thousand tonnes i.e., 29.36 percent of the production.8.4 A comparative analysis of Marketable Surplus and Marketed Surplus estimates by differentcategories of cultivators is presented in the following table No. 34.
