CSI Lab
The Elmo Burglar (JD)
Ages 10-16
In this exciting interactive “Whodunit”,
participants will use technology and
science lab equipment to solve a burglary
crime. Participants will evaluate a variety
of physical, electronic and microscopic
evidence. Basic lab tests will be conducted
to fi gure out which “persons of interest”
committed the crime. Th is simulated crime
activity depicts a non-violent event.

Mission to Mars,
Signs of Life (JD)

In this space simulation program, teams of
participants will learn about basic rocketry,
navigate through the hazards of space and
control a robotic rover on the Martian
surface. Th is interactive computer- based
activity will expand each participant’s perspective
about space and technology as they
investigate the questions concerning life
on Mars. Participants will use the provided
tablet computers interactive among each
other; learn about space technology issues
and control robotic rovers while searching
for signs of life on a model of Martian terrain.

Our Night Sky (JD)
Ages 10-16
Th is program includes a brief historic lesson
on the development modern astronomy;
along with a Star Show that will showcase
an aspect of our Solar System. Participants
will learn about refractor and refl ector
telescope designs. Each participant will construct
a small basic refractor telescope. With
good seeing weather, participants will test
their telescopes and use a tablet computer
to remotely control an onsite telescope. Th e
registration deadline is July 16, 2012.

In this interactive computer simulation,
participants will be introduced to the energy
issues and concerns in a meaningful and fun

decorate and test their wind turbines models.

build motorized machines, houses, pyramids,
bridges, catapults, buildings, and other constructions.
Students will work individually,
in teams, and as a group throughout the sessions.
A short discussion and demonstration
of the day’s topic starts each class meeting.
Children are given a design/building assignment.
Experienced students will be given
new projects each day. Materials will be
provided for each class.
