LOYOLALoyola! Why was this groupnamed thus? Is there anything in aname ? Yes, there is a lot in thisone. St. Ignatius of Loyola was agreat <strong>edu</strong>cator and the founder ofone of the greatest teaching professionsin the Catholic Church. He istherefore the patron saint ofteachers and it is appropriate forCatholic student teach ers as a groupto bear his name.Th e aim of th is group is to fostersome form of Catholic Actionamong College students. With thisaim in view we had two visitingspeakers - Father Twomey andFather Lang - who spoke on ourvocation as teachers. Both stressedthe point that next year we willhave the responsibility of a grade ofchildren and no matter what religionwe are, we greatly influencethe ch ildren's lives. It is our ownupbringing which will be shown tothe children.Later on in the second term,when we realized that spiritualismwas interesting some of the studentswe invited Father Lawrence,a .F .M., from Mornington to speakon this subject. Ihope this start will be continued bythi s year 's First years in 1963.CONCERT AND DRAMATICSCOMMITTEEDuring <strong>1962</strong> the Concert andDramatics Committee has had avery success ful yea r under the managernenr,of Sue Pott.Several shows have been staged-"Summertime" , "New Faces"and "The Spartan Girl" - all ofwhich have been highly successfulwith a profit obtained in each case.Mu ch back-stage work has beendone by the Committee for the twoG. and S. play s put on in the CollegeHall.Many improvements have beenmade. We have shared with theaquatics group in the purchasing ofa trailer; we bought a stage cloth,and we are making curtains for thestage.
