2008 Celebrations / Social Corner. What an evening, after years of planning the Clubs Centenary Ballwent off superbly well on the 28 th of June.It was a hard job to recognise people all dressed up in their finery forthe evening. Everywhere you looked there were people smiling andenjoying themselves.Fran and I were fortunate enough to be on the Top table next to AlanDean-Lewis and his wife, 2 of our guests of honour. They commentedon how friendly the Club is, how nice it was to see a large spread ofages and how much thought and effort had been put in to the event. They liked the commemorative Wire Glasses that the guests got tokeep and the program / booklet on the Club history and also on howmuch they had enjoyed the event.Certainly the Ball room at the Duke of Cornwall looked stunning anda big thank you must go to everyone involved in making the eveningone to remember for a long time to come by all who attended. The Charity Raffle and Auction raised over £1400 and saw allsorts ofitems being bid for ranging from a ride in a Rally Car to a book of Picturesby David Bailey to a Subaru Umbrella, and even our CompetitionSecretary Andy Pearce was put up for auction. (I am not sure if itwas Chris that put him up for sale, but they only get him for a day.)During his day as a slave he is going to have his head shaved for theClubs Charities, I have agreed to have my beard shaved off after 20plus years as well if enough people sponsor us so please dig into yourwallets and help the Clubs Charities this year. (If enough people sponsorAndy there is even talk of him having an all over Waxing –Ouch!), more details soon. The evening was photographed by Terry Thorne and the pictures areon his website, www.teltphotograpy.com, if you want a memento ofthe evening or fancy a laugh.Moving on to next month the Social Evening on the 1 st of August is atAugust 2008 www.plymouthmotorclub.co.uk Page 19
