<strong>AS</strong>-<strong>IS</strong> <strong>AS</strong>SESSMENTapplications are still be<strong>in</strong>g received forlicens<strong>in</strong>g of Saw Mills and an officer of the levelof Additional Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal Chief Conservator ofForests has been appo<strong>in</strong>ted as the Chairman ofthe Committee for this purpose <strong>in</strong> addition tohis own duties.3.1.3.13 ADMIN<strong>IS</strong>TRATION AND MANAGEMENTOF ZOOLOGICAL PARKS IN THESTATEThe DFWP is also the sole agency <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong>the protection and preservation of wildlifethough the management of Zoos, Safaris andZoological Parks, Deer Parks and the like <strong>in</strong> l<strong>in</strong>ewith the guidel<strong>in</strong>es issued by the Central ZooAuthority from time to time.The Central Zoo Authority is the central agencyresponsible for regulat<strong>in</strong>g and standardis<strong>in</strong>g allzoo management operations throughout thecountry. Currently, the CZA requires a set of 51standards <strong>in</strong> the spheres of healthcare,adm<strong>in</strong>istration and animal management(<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g food, deworm<strong>in</strong>g, sanitation andupkeep etc) that any zoological park <strong>in</strong> thecountry is required to follow.Annexure 1 gives more details of zoomanagement operations as it obta<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> theState of Punjab.3.1.3.14 OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES ALLIEDWITH CONSERVATION TO BEPERFORMED BY THE DFWPThe follow<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong> addition to what has beensaid above are also performed by the DFWP Development of Bamboo, Medic<strong>in</strong>al Plantsand matters connected with Medic<strong>in</strong>al PlantBoard; Eco-education, research/ extension relatedto forests, wild life, natural resourcemanagement, ecosystem awareness;augmentation of community livelihoodsystems based on pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of susta<strong>in</strong>abledevelopment and constitution of community<strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Self-help groups; Farmer/community tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and camps,extension campaigns <strong>in</strong> relation to Forests,wild life, ecology and natural resourceconservation; publication of extensionmaterial, organiz<strong>in</strong>g sem<strong>in</strong>ars, sammelans,study tours and exposure visits ofofficials/non-officials; Use of Geographic Information System, IT andRemote sens<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the field of mapp<strong>in</strong>g,Plann<strong>in</strong>g and monitor<strong>in</strong>g Natural ResourceManagement; Forest Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g and construction andma<strong>in</strong>tenance of <strong>in</strong>frastructure of the ForestDepartment; Registration of Forest based Societies andwood based Industries; Seek<strong>in</strong>g National/International assistance forforestry and natural resource conservationand development programmes; Soil conservation <strong>in</strong> non-farm land, floodprotection through catchment treatment andvegetative measures; Facilitat<strong>in</strong>g Grant-<strong>in</strong>-aid from Government ofIndia for forestry and natural resourceconservation education; and Any other matter prescribed by the Centreand/or the state <strong>gov</strong>ernment from time totime.3.1.4 INTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS- DFWPORGANIZATIONThe <strong>in</strong>ternal stakeholders consists of all DFWPDepartment officials <strong>in</strong> its various offices<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Forest M<strong>in</strong>ister, F<strong>in</strong>ancialCommissioner, PCCF, Addl. PCCF, CCF, CF,DFOs, Rangers and Forest Guards.3.1.4.1 Organization Structure of DepartmentThe Department is headed by the ForestM<strong>in</strong>ister of Government of Punjab. The detailedorganization structure is captured <strong>in</strong> Figure 6.23
