l. Exclusion<br />
A student who fails five (5) or more courses prescribed for MBChB III will be excluded<br />
on academic grounds.<br />
MBChB IV - PHASE III A<br />
The Principle: Phase III (i.e. level IV and V) shall be treated as one continuous phase.<br />
a. There will be an end of clerkship (end-of-block) assessment consisting of IPA, OSCE,<br />
and MEQ.<br />
b. Computation of Marks<br />
Continuous Assessment 20%<br />
MEQ 20%<br />
OSCE 20% (Paediatrics 40%)<br />
IPA 40% (Paediatrics 20%)<br />
Regarding Clinical Clerkships in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics,<br />
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry and Family Medicine.<br />
c. At level IV, a student must pass both the clinical and theory components of the<br />
examination in addition to obtaining an overall mark of fifty per cent (50%) or more.<br />
d. A student who fails a clinical clerkship at MBChB IV will repeat and pass the failed ONE<br />
or TWO blocks before proceeding to MBChB V.<br />
The student will do the blocks by joining the current MBChB IV. Continue with electives<br />
and only start MBChB V on passing both the clinical and theory components of the<br />
examinations.<br />
e. A student who fails one clinical clerkship for the second time shall repeat that clerkship<br />
before proceeding to fifth (5 th ) year clinical clerkships.<br />
f. A student who repeats two clinical clerkships but fails one shall repeat the failed<br />
clinical clerkship before proceeding to fifth (5 th ) year clinical clerkships.<br />
g. A student who fails more than two clinical clerkships is deemed to fail the year and<br />
shall repeat those clerkships before proceeding to fifth (5 th ) year clerkships.<br />
Regarding Clinical Clerkships in Surgical Specialties<br />
A student who fails to obtain fifty per cent (50%) but obtains forty five per cent (45%) or<br />
more in any of the surgical specialities shall be given a supplementary examination. However,<br />
a student who fails to obtain forty five percent (45%) in any of these surgical specialities or<br />
fails the supplementary examination, shall repeat the failed clerkship/s after completing all the<br />
clinical clerkships allocated for fifth (5 th ) year at the beginning of the following year and during<br />
the elective period, in the case of one or two surgical specialities. If a student has failed more<br />
than two surgical specialities, the clerkship will go beyond the elective period.<br />
