THE OLD FIVE (5) YEAR CURRICULUM
NB: Whereas the main areas of coverage in Phase II include Pathology (Anatomical, Chemical,
Forensic), Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology, Normal Structure and Function, Population
Medicine and Clinical Practice (including Laboratory Skills as part of Professional Skills) will also
be covered.
LEVEL IV - VI (phase III) - 248 credits
This is a Phase of Clinical Clerkship in primary, secondary and tertiary Care facilities, where
emphasis is not on Clinical Practice alone, but also on Normal structure and function, abnormal
structure and function and population medicine in an integrative fashion. In the fifth year year
(level 5) students will spend a whole year of clinical clerkship in a secondary hospital. Clinical
Clerkship will be done in the following areas:
LEVEL IV (Phase IIIA) - 188 Credits
Family Medicine FME 4001 (24 Credits)
Internal Medicine ITM 4002 (24 Credits)
Obstetrics and Gynaecology OBG 4003 (24 Credits)
Psychiatry PCY 4004 (20 Credits)

Community Medicine COM 4007 (08 Credits)

NB: Surgical Specialties are: Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Orthopaedics and
Anaesthesiology.
There will be 2 weeks’ rotation (8 Credits) in each of the Surgical Specialties.
