(f)as well as the availability/possibility of the Advisor providing the guidance withoutdetriment to the quality of Thesis/ Research or unduly prolonging the duration of thethesis/research work must be taken into consideration.Normally no staff member registered for the Ph.D. degree of this University shall be anAdvisor and if an Advisor registers himself for a Ph.D. degree of this University, he shallcease to be an Advisor thereafter.Allotment of students to the retiring persons(g) Normally, retiring person may not be allotted M.Sc. student if he is left with less than 2years of service and Ph.D. student if left with less than 3 years of service. However, inspecial circumstances, permission may be obtained from Dean, P.G.S. by the concernedHead, of the Department.Advisory Committee:2. (a) For every student in the college of <strong>Post</strong>-<strong>Graduate</strong> Studies, there shall be an AdvisoryCommittee consisting of not fewer than three members in the case of a candidate forMaster's degree and four in the case of Ph.D. degree with the Advisor as Chairman.The Advisory Committee should have representatives from the major and minor fields.(b) The Advisor in consultation with the Head of Department concerned shall within fifteendays of his appointment as Advisor recommend through the Dean of the collegeconcerned to the Dean of the college of <strong>Post</strong>-<strong>Graduate</strong> Studies names of the membersof the Advisory Committee from amongst the members of the P.G. Faculty and the staffof the University accredited for appropriate <strong>Post</strong>-<strong>Graduate</strong> level research. However, inthose departments where qualified staff exists but due to unavoidable reasons postgraduatedegree programmesare not existing, the staff having post-graduate teachingexperience of three years or more may be included in the Advisory Committee as memberrepresenting the minor.(c) The Dean of the college of the <strong>Post</strong>-<strong>Graduate</strong> Studies shall appoint the Committee bythe end of the Semester of student's admission in the P.G. programme after makingsuch changes as he considers necessary.(d) The Advisor should convene a meeting of the Advisory Committee atleast once in a Semester.The summary record should be communicated to the Head of Department, Dean of theCollege of concerned, Registrar and Dean, <strong>Post</strong>-<strong>Graduate</strong> Studies for information.Staff members on extra ordinary leave or study leave or ex-staff to continue as Advisor3. (1) Normally staff members of the University on extra ordinary leave or on study leave orwho leave the University service will cease to continue to serve as Advisors of the <strong>Post</strong>-<strong>Graduate</strong> Studies of the University. However, the Dean, <strong>Post</strong>-<strong>Graduate</strong> Studies may permitthem to continue to serve as Advisor subject to the following conditions:(a) The concerned staff member must be resident in India and if he agrees to guideresearch must be available for occasional consultations;(b) An application is made by the student concerned and that is duly supported byAdvisory Committee;130
