<strong>KIVI</strong> <strong>NIRIA</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> on Engineering DynamicsOn 17 April 2009 a <strong>KIVI</strong> <strong>NIRIA</strong> <strong>Symposium</strong> on “Recent Developments in the Dynamics ofMechanical Systems” was held in Delft.It was organised by the <strong>KIVI</strong> <strong>NIRIA</strong> / department Mechanics in honor of the 75-th birthdayof emeritus prof. Piet Meijers.The Faculty 3mE / Section Engineering Dynamics of TUD hosted the <strong>Symposium</strong>.The Delft symposium featured as speakers:• prof. Daniel Rixen, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TUDelft, on the subject"Engineering Dynamics in Delft: joggling with science, industry andadministration";• prof. André de Boer, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Twente, onthe subject "Optimal dynamics", focusing on acousto-elastic coupling of structuresand the accompanying generation of noise;• prof. Henk Nijmeijer, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TU Eindhoven, on"Dynamics and control in Eindhoven", illustrated by a variety of examples inmodeling with numerical and experimental tools; and• ir. René Liebregts, DAF Trucks in Eindhoven. on "Truck Dynamics", focusing ondurability, ride comfort, handling, noise and harshness in truck operations..The three-hour symposium has been well attended by staff and students from throughoutthe university, and by engineers and mathematicians from other universities and industry.Here are some pictures that will help us fondly remember this event:First, three of the four speakers, and twoof the organizers.
