JWF Fund 2010 Report #266<strong>to</strong>ilet facility constructed with support from JWF <strong>is</strong> seen by all as a major step forward <strong>to</strong>wardimprov<strong>in</strong>g sanitation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> locality. Although <strong>the</strong> actual expenditure for <strong>the</strong> project wassignificantly <strong>in</strong> excess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>itial budget, it did not <strong>in</strong> any way limit PEYORG and <strong>the</strong> communityfrom achiev<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> objectives for which <strong>the</strong> JWF Fund was given. We w<strong>is</strong>h <strong>the</strong>refore <strong>to</strong> expressour s<strong>in</strong>cere appreciation <strong>to</strong> JWF for <strong>the</strong> fund, which <strong>in</strong> many ways brought commitment <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>project. With <strong>the</strong> experience acquired by all parties, we <strong>be</strong>lieve we are <strong>be</strong>tter placed now <strong>to</strong>replicate th<strong>is</strong> success s<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>in</strong> surround<strong>in</strong>g communities w<strong>here</strong> <strong>the</strong> sanitation challenge <strong>is</strong> evenmore pronounced. Neighbour<strong>in</strong>g rural communities like Saaman, Beposo and Akrampa, whichheard <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> JWF project at Ass<strong>in</strong> Kumasi have expressed <strong>the</strong> will<strong>in</strong>gness <strong>to</strong> partner PEYORGand The JWF Fund <strong>to</strong> construct such appropriate sanitation technologies for <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>in</strong>habitants.Most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se communities have expressed <strong>the</strong> will<strong>in</strong>gness <strong>to</strong> commit labour, land, bricks, s<strong>to</strong>nes,and also dig <strong>the</strong> manhole for <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>ilet. We w<strong>is</strong>h by th<strong>is</strong> report <strong>to</strong> request for additional fund<strong>in</strong>gfrom JWF <strong>to</strong> construct more <strong>of</strong> such facilities, us<strong>in</strong>g local materials for <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> l<strong>is</strong>tedcommunities. Estimates show that, at $ 1,700 per <strong>to</strong>ilet, we can construct such facilities with<strong>in</strong> 3months <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> l<strong>is</strong>ted communities. It <strong>is</strong> our hope that th<strong>is</strong> partnership <strong>be</strong>tween JWF Fund andPEYORG would cont<strong>in</strong>ue, and actually lead <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> prov<strong>is</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> basic water and sanitationfacilities for <strong>the</strong>se communities, which are among <strong>the</strong> most impover<strong>is</strong>hed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn part <strong>of</strong>Ghana.
