JWF Fund 2010 Report #266toilet facility constructed with support from JWF is seen by all as a major step forward towardimproving sanitation in the locality. Although the actual expenditure for the project wassignificantly in excess of the initial budget, it did not in any way limit PEYORG and the communityfrom achieving the objectives for which the JWF Fund was given. We wish therefore to expressour sincere appreciation to JWF for the fund, which in many ways brought commitment to theproject. With the experience acquired by all parties, we believe we are better placed now toreplicate this success story in surrounding communities where the sanitation challenge is evenmore pronounced. Neighbouring rural communities like Saaman, Beposo and Akrampa, whichheard of the JWF project at Assin Kumasi have expressed the willingness to partner PEYORGand The JWF Fund to construct such appropriate sanitation technologies for their inhabitants.Most of these communities have expressed the willingness to commit labour, land, bricks, stones,and also dig the manhole for the toilet. We wish by this report to request for additional fundingfrom JWF to construct more of such facilities, using local materials for the people of the listedcommunities. Estimates show that, at $ 1,700 per toilet, we can construct such facilities within 3months in the listed communities. It is our hope that this partnership between JWF Fund andPEYORG would continue, and actually lead to the provision of basic water and sanitationfacilities for these communities, which are among the most impoverished in the southern part ofGhana.
