HEXAGON KEYSWhy UNBRAKO keys tighten socket screws tighter, safelyAn UNBRAKO key is not an ordinaryhexagon key – it is a precision internalwrenching tool of great strengthand ductility. With an UNBRAKO key,far more tightening torque than isneeded can be applied without damagingthe screw or the key, and it canbe done safely. This is an importantfeature, especially true of the smallersizes (5/32” and under) which arenormally held in the hand.Photographs of a destruction testshow what we mean. Under excessivetorque a 5/64” UNBRAKO keytwists but does not shear until atorque has been reached that isapproximately 20% greater than canbe applied with an ordinary key. Athis point it shears off clean, flushwith the top of the socket, leavingno jagged edge to gash a hand.Still the UNBRAKO screw has notbeen harmed. The broken piece ofthe key is not wedged into the socket.It can be lifted out with a smallmagnet, convincing proof that thesocket has not been reamed orotherwise damaged.NOTE: The use of an extension inthese illustrations is for demonstrationpurposes only. The manufacturer doesnot recommend the use of extensionswith any hex key product undernormal conditions.A 5/64” UNBRAKO key will twist up to180° without weakening.Twisted to about 270°, the key shearsoff clean. Note the extension bar illustratedfor test purposes only.The socket hasn’t been reamed ordamaged.
