Bosphorus Bridge, Istanbul, Turkey<strong>The</strong> Road to Turkey<strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> won a contract from Marubeni Corporation to offer turnkeyintegrated solutions for a commuter rail project in IstanbulIn May 2007 <strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> wona contract of about S$123m fromMarubeni Corporation, a memberof AMD Rail Consortium, to offerturnkey integrated solutions for acommuter rail project in Istanbul,Turkey.<strong>The</strong> 76.3km long line with 37stations will link Halkali, on theEuropean side, to the suburb ofGebze, on the Asian side. It willconnect with the Istanbul urbanmetro and light rail networks.<strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> will design, supply,install and commission thetelecommunications, supervisorycontrol and data acquisition(SCADA) and automatic farecollection systems for theMarmaray Commuter Rail CR1project in Istanbul which isexpected to be open for passengerservice in 2011.“<strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> has pursued theEuropean and Middle-Easternmarkets for growth over the lastthree years with some success.This contract is a first in electronicsrail solution for us in Europeand represents a significantachievement for us in this region.Besides providing us with astrong foothold in Turkey, it willalso position us effectively forsecuring potential rail electronicssystem projects in Europe,” saidMr Seah Moon Ming, President of<strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong>.<strong>The</strong> company has made successfulinroads in its rail business inBeijing, Guangzhou, Manila,Bangkok, Taipei, Kaohsiung andSingapore. It recently won a contractto provide communications,SCADA, Platform Screen Doorsand Maintenance ManagementSystems for the Taiwan TaoyuanInternational Airport Access Line.<strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> transportationsolutions such as i-Transport andtraffic management solutions arecurrently used in Singapore andChina.
