news<strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoft AwardedHDB RFID Project<strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoft will handle the necessary systemsintegration to ensure data integrity and smooth workflowin the supply chain<strong>The</strong> Housing and DevelopmentBoard (HDB) of Singapore hasawarded <strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> (Info-Software Systems) [<strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoft] a project to supply,check and distribute 250,000Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) tags to season parkingticket (SPT) users and 10 HDBbranch offices in the northernand eastern parts of Singapore.Mr Chang Yew Kong (centre), President of <strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoftcongratulates project team members Mr Jeremy Quek andMs Tan Eng Luang<strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoft’s expertise as asystem integrator in providingcustomised applications andquality project management hasplaced it in a unique position tobe able to provide the HDB witha <strong>complete</strong> solution that will fullyutilise its experience in RFIDapplications for this project.<strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoft will handle thenecessary systems integration toensure data integrity and smoothworkflow in the supply chain.Currently, SPT users need tovisit the HDB branch offices topurchase or renew the paper SPT.<strong>The</strong> RFID tags are embedded inthe new SPTs with an antennaand computer chip. Every chiphas a unique identificationnumber tied to the vehiclelicence plate number. Allrenewals can now be doneelectronically via GIRO orthrough the HDB website,thus eliminating the needto queue at the HDB branchoffices. Users can alsorenew via any AXS or SAMself-service kiosk.HDB parking enforcementofficers will also find theirjobs easier as they nowonly need to scan the RFID tagswith their handheld devicesinstead of visually looking at thepaper SPT.<strong>The</strong> new RFID season parkingsystem will also save HDBadministration overhead costswhich was necessary for theexisting paper-based system.In line with <strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong>’Service Trans<strong>format</strong>ion mantra,<strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoft has effectivelyhelped HDB to deliver betterservice to its customers andstakeholders.<strong>ST</strong>EE-InfoSoft, together with<strong>ST</strong> <strong>Electronics</strong> (Info-CommSystems), has previously deliveredthe Contact Track and Trace(CT&T) RFID tagging system forthe Ministry of Health back in2003 during the SARS epidemic.CT&T greatly alleviated theMinistry’s problem in contacttracing. <strong>The</strong> company has alsosuccessfully implemented projectsin Thailand, where RFID identificationand tracking solutions forcontract workers were deployedin a restricted compound to improvesecurity and productivity,and also for VIPs at an exclusiveclub to increase customer servicelevel.For more in<strong>format</strong>ion, please contactJaffrey Pang at (65) 6413 1458 or email:jaffreypang@stee.stengg.comvolume 20 no. 2 5
