projectsWireless BoostBusinesses in the western part of Singapore to benefitfrom wireless broadband access network designed andimplemented by STEE-InfoCommST Electronics (Info-CommSystems) [STEE-InfoComm] isconstantly at the forefront of wirelesstechnology and communications.With its extensive capabilityand knowledge in this area,STEE-InfoComm was appointedby Internet service providerPacific Internet (PacNet) to designand implement a comprehensivenetwork that delivers wirelessbroadband access in the westernpart of Singapore.PacNet is one of Singapore’s firstbroadband operators (DSL, cablemodem and wireless) to offerwireless corporate broadbandservices to its corporate customerswith ST Electronics’ WirelessBroadband Access (WBA) networkin place. This network haspowered businesses, giving themwider coverage, more choicesand value-added services. Withsimpler and faster installation,shorter provisioning periodand ultimately, greater savings,PacNet’s corporate customershave benefited from portability,through wireless connectionanywhere within the coveragearea, without the hassle of layingcables.Benefits to Service ProviderThe WBA network replaced theexpensive local copper loopwith a point to multi-point radiosystem. The advent of low cost,high volume production of digitalradio has made these networksmore economically viable forservice providers. The networkprovided an array of deploymentoptions to deliver robust wirelessdata, voice and video services.The network configuration wasbuilt around a number of radiobase stations to effectively covera pre-determined service areaspecified by the service provider.Each base station was connectedby microwave, coaxial or fiberoptic backhauls to one or morecentral office switch. The stationswere then connected to a customerunit attached to residences oroffices by radio links.The base stations featured a multiserviceintelligent design with ahighly scalable capacity andcoverage as well as dynamic persubscriberlink optimisation. Itenabled quick deployment, easeof installation and configuration.The entire network implementationwas completed within threemonths and it has started servingthe first customer even before allbase stations were rolled out.The WBA network supportedconnection speeds of up to 3Mbpswith a sustained symmetricalthroughput of 2Mbps. There wasno need for additional modificationsto the user’s existing LANnetwork settings. The securedwireless infrastructure allowedonly authorised subscriber unitsto access the network. projectsEMC Capability Provesits Mettle in IndonesiaST Electronics (Info-CommSystems) [STEE-InfoComm] hasrecently completed a project todevelop an integrated EMC TestSystem for Balai Besar Bahan danBarang Teknik (B4T) in Bandung,Indonesia. This system enablesB4T to enhance their services inElectromagnetic Compatibility(EMC) testing to include productcompliance tests for InformationTechnology Equipment (ITE),Industrial, Scientific & Medical(ISM) and household products.It allows B4T to provide a widerrange of services for its Indonesiaand international customers. Theservices include professionaltechnical services through testing,calibration, technical inspection,certification, technical trainingand research & development.STEE-InfoComm completed thisproject within a remarkable fourmonths instead of the marketstandard six to nine months. Thiswas possible because of its highlytrainedand experienced team inEMC testing, consultation andengineering services. The projectwas satisfactorily completed andcommissioned for use by B4T inMarch 2007.This project has involvedintegration of a wide range ofinstrumentations from a varietyof suppliers. An InstrumentSoftware Control System (ISCS)was implemented to achieveseamless equipment control forElectromagnetic Interference(EMI) and ElectromagneticSusceptibility (EMS) testing.These tests were conducted in fullcompliance with European andUS standards.The instrumentations includeEMC receivers, Radio Frequency(RF) amplifiers, signal generators,antennas and antenna masts. Seediagram for details.Instrument SoftwareControl System (ISCS)To meet B4T’s EMC requirements,STEE-InfoComm developed theISCS that provided a visual-basedintegrated control of the EMCmeasurement instruments. ItsWindows-based application hasused concurrent windows anddialog boxes to ensure easy communicationwith the program.Comprehensive EMCServicesSTEE-InfoComm has more thantwo decades of field-proven experiencein providing comprehensivetest and consultancy servicesfor all facets of electromagneticenvironment including defence,commercial, rail and automotiveapplications.
