College faculty members volunteer to teach some sessions, andother sessions are facilitated by a high school counselor.Goals and components: The Bridge to College program is aimed atincreasing the number of high school students who are eligible to participatein dual enrollment courses. During the fall of their sophomore year, studentsinterested in taking dual enrollment courses take the COMPASS test. Thosewhose English or math scores indicate they are not prepared to take dualenrollment courses are recruited for this program. After an all-dayintroductory event, students attend weekly after-school study sessionsthroughout the spring semester to strengthen their content knowledge andstudy skills. The math program, for instance, includes 15–20 minutes ofstudy-skills training each week followed by self-remediation using computersoftware (MyMathLab). At the end of the academic year, students retake theCOMPASS test. Students who test into college-level courses are then eligibleto take dual-credit courses during their junior year.1 Lone Star College–North Harris offers a similar program to some high schools in its feeder pattern.40

EachCollege Connection advisor is assigned to two to three high schools in thearea and spends one day per week at each high school and one day per weekat the college campus.
