Elementaryand middle schools in the feeder patterns <strong>for</strong> these high schools also partnerwith Project GRAD.Location: Participating high schools, with summer programs at participatingcollegesProgram type: Multi-year college readiness programParticipants: All students attending Project GRAD high schools during theirfreshman year are eligible <strong>for</strong> the Project GRAD programming andscholarship.Length/duration: Programming is offered throughout high school, withintensive academic programs offered each summer. Each college institutetakes place on a university campus and varies from two to six weeks inlength.Funding: Funding is provided by the Houston Independent <strong>School</strong> District(HISD) and through private donations and federal grants.Goals and components: The mission of Project GRAD is to ensure a qualitypublic education <strong>for</strong> students in economically disadvantaged communities sothat high school and college graduation rates increase. The main goals of the4 Project GRAD also partners with colleges and universities, including Rice University, University ofHouston–Downtown, University of St. Thomas, University of Texas Health Science Center, University ofHouston, Texas Southern, and Houston Community <strong>College</strong>, to offer students summer bridgeprogramming during high school and to offer PG at the U once they begin college.46
