NavigationBefore we begin to explore the many features of the<strong>Visualiner</strong> let's become familiar with the basic navigationand operation of the aligner.There are several ways to control movement withinthe aligner program. All <strong>Visualiner</strong> <strong>Series</strong> models areequipped with a hand-held remote control whosevarious buttons permit full aligner function. In addition,the measuring heads on all models are fitted witha keypad with the same button layout as the remote,allowing operation from any wheel (see Page 20).Models equipped with the optional remote displayunit will also have a similar keypad. Study Figure 7carefully to become familiar with the functions of eachbutton.In addition, the optional keyboard has a "Print Screen"key. When this key is pressed the currently displayedscreen will be captured and printed. Theexception to this print screen function is the animationsequences on the CD-ROM software which cannotbe printed.Note: The numeric keypad located to the far right onthe keyboard does not function in the <strong>Visualiner</strong>software.For <strong>Visualiner</strong> <strong>Series</strong> models equipped with the optionalprinter package, an IBM-style keyboard isincluded. All aligner functions can be controlled fromthe keyboard as well as the remote and the measuringheads. The function keys located on the top rowof the keyboard are the equivalent of the remote andkeypad buttons. The <strong>Visualiner</strong> <strong>Series</strong> software is "menu driven" forease of use. Most of the screens allow choices to bemade about which direction to go to access variousfunctions. Menus with choices will always have awhite selection box on the screen. When the selectionbox is positioned over a menu item using the up/down arrow keys and the Enter button is pressed, thatitem is activated.Many areas of the software contain several layers ofsub-menus to give the operator maximum control overthe aligner's functions. Upon entering a selection ona menu, there may be additional selections on thesub-menu, and so on. When moving through thenetwork of sub-menus the "Enter" button movesforward and the "Page Back" button moves backwardsone page at a time. The "Menu" button can bepressed any time to return to the aligner's Main Menuscreen shown above.The <strong>Visualiner</strong> <strong>Series</strong> software also utilizes "softkeys"to streamline operation and allow movement toadditional functions. The soft-keys are located alongthe bottom of almost every screen in the aligner.Numbered 1 - 4, they correspond to the 1 - 4 keys onthe remote and head keypad as well as the 1 - 4function keys on the optional console keyboard.Press the keys on any location and the appropriatesoft-key operation will begin.Page 23
