34PoliciesProfessional Development GuidelinesOur courses provide essential knowledge and skills to enable you tobe a successful professional in the salon and spa industry. Establishingprofessional work habits is a primary focus in all of our courses. Thefollowing is a general description of our student guidelines, which outlinewhat we expect from our students and what you can expect from our team.You will receive a complete listing of the school’s policies and procedures atthe time of your enrollment.AttendanceUpon registration, the student schedules a place in a particular class.Since class size is limited by state law, the <strong>School</strong> insists upon prompt andregular attendance at all times. The student is required to report to schoolat the regularly scheduled time. All students must attend according to theAchievement and Attendance Evaluation schedule. Students unable toattend classes must call in one hour before scheduled start time.Attendance is recorded to the NEAREST quarter hour.Attendance for full-time day students must be taken at the beginning andconclusion of EACH morning/afternoon session. Attendance should betaken at 9:00 AM, and again before lunch dismissal. Attendance is takenagain at the beginning of the afternoon (PM) session and prior to afternoondismissal.Attendance for part-time evening students is taken at the beginning of theevening session at 5:45 PM and again prior to dismissal. Attendance forevening students in ONLY recorded in the PM session of the attendanceregister.NOTE: Attendance is taken four (4) times per day for full-time students andtwice (2) per evening session for part-time evening students. Two entries(P or A) are required for full-time students and one entry (P or A) is requiredfor part-time evening sessions.AbsenceAn absence due to illness, death in the immediate family and/or any otherunavoidable circumstance must be reported to the school. Students whodo not complete the program within the Maximum Time frame will beterminated.TardinessPromptness in reporting to class at the beginning of each session isnecessary. Tardiness will be clocked at the nearest 1/4 hour.Schedule ChangesUnder normal circumstances, schedule changes will be granted only tothose students achieving the Achievement and Attendance Evaluationstandards. There may be circumstances where this will not be applicabledue to schedule rotation.Course Cancellation PolicyShould the need arise for the school to cancel or delay the start of aprogram, the school will work with the student to arrange for a new startdate. Should a refund be required, it will be done in accordance with therefund policy contained within this catalog.Transfer/TranscriptsStudents may transfer hours upon completion of a practical examinationthat will be given in conjunction with mock State Boards. Proficiencyexaminations will be used to determine the appropriate entry point intothe curriculum and the hours that will be accepted. Any <strong>Empire</strong> studentmaking satisfactory academic progress may transfer from one <strong>Empire</strong>school to another <strong>Empire</strong> school. Acceptance of complete hours will bebased on the receiving schools state curriculum requirement.If an <strong>Empire</strong> student wants to move to another <strong>Empire</strong> owned schoolthat is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the <strong>School</strong>’saccrediting body and is an additional location of the <strong>School</strong> the studentis presently attending, he/she may transfer to the additional location.However, if the student is wishing to transfer from one main school toanother main school, the student must withdraw from their present school,and then enroll at the new school. A refund calculation will be completedby the <strong>School</strong> from which they are leaving and the student may needto re-apply for Title IV funding at the new school. The student’s currentsatisfactory academic progress standing and Achievement and AttendanceEvaluation follows through to his/her new school when the student is atransfer from the main school to an additional location. <strong>Empire</strong> EducationGroup charges a fee for educational-transcripts. Tuition and other fees willbe charged based upon the hours and equipment needed.Make Up WorkMake up work is associated with any missed or failed assignments. Allpractical and lab work should be made up following an absence. Makeup work can only be completed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdayevenings from 5:00-6:00 pm and Saturdays.The student’s responsibility is to make sure he/she has obtained all notesand assignments. Once the final curriculum grade is submitted, thestudent has one (1) week to complete any make up work, provided that thestudent’s attendance is at least 50%. If the student’s attendance is less than50% then the student must re-take the module to receive a grade.
