John II, 25."The two little children, aged 4 <strong>and</strong> 6, of Rev. J.Philp, are briefly commemorated by the words :"The angels took her," <strong>and</strong> "Called Home."The names of Overfield, Roxbrough, Notman,Moir, Scott, Gamble, Fleming, McKee, Cumming, Kilpatrick.Weir, Knox, Steel, occur, <strong>and</strong> some of theplaces of birth are : Hurl<strong>et</strong>, Dunfermline, Fifeshire,Aberdeen, Scotl<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> Warrington, Engl<strong>and</strong>.ST.ANNS.This, like Dundas graveyard, is situated on ahill, but, unlike it, is quite conspicuous from a distancewith its many monuments <strong>and</strong> the Presbyterianchurch near it, which this year of 1909 is about tocelebrate the centenary of its formation as a congregation.Here are found many proofs of the early s<strong>et</strong>tlementof this district, as several old stones are marked1807, <strong>and</strong> one which could not be found has thename of Jane Kennedy, died 1797. Traces ofCanadian <strong>and</strong> British history are here found, as theNorthwest Rebellion <strong>and</strong> the Boer War, in this littlecountry village, as well as of the Revolution <strong>and</strong> theU. E. Loyalists driven here by ill-treatment for faithfulnessto their King. A tall monument, the secondin size, also of a pioneer in the ministry, bears the inscription:"In memory of Rev. D. W. Eastman, died Aug.,1865, aged 87 years. Mr. Eastman was born inGoshen, N.Y., in "^1778. Came to <strong>Canada</strong> in 1801, <strong>and</strong>at once entered on the work of the ministry with greatenergy. He was the father of the Presbyterian churchesin the Niagara <strong>and</strong> Gore Districts, <strong>and</strong> for more thanhalf a century was eminently useful as a faithful <strong>and</strong>zealous laborer in his Master's vineyard. His wifedied in 18^14 ; having lived a pious <strong>and</strong> useful life, shedied a calm <strong>and</strong> peaceful death."
