PAUL'S CHURCH.Since this is an old settlement and here so muchfighting occurred in the war of 1812, it might be expectedthat there would be found the graves of manymilitary heroes, and indeed military and naval heroesabound, but there are few dates farther back than 1820in any of the numerous graveyards here. At thatdreadful holocaust, when the explosion occurred at theattack on Fort Erie no doubt the most were buriedwhere they fell. It has been already seen that one navalhero was buried at Niagara and another at Lundy'sLane. Many retired officers must have settled here,as witness :"This monument as a tribute of love and affectionis erected by their thirteen surviving children to WilliamStanton, Staffordshire, England, Dep. Ass. Com.General, died 12th June, 1833, aged 77."Here lie three members of one family, a father andtwo sons, all officers :"Lieut.-Col. Arthur Jones, C. B.,1836.71st Regt.,"Lieut. Arthur Jones, 71st Regt., 1856."Lieut. P. Jones, R. N., 1839."In Niagara we have already seen the record ofCol. KingsmiU and two sons, also officers."Sacred to the memory of Col.
