Book is deemed to hold the ‘master’ information in this situation and so the Slot must remainreserved and the lack of an Application Acknowledgement for the message must be flaggedto the administrator for Manual Resolution as per section 4.11. The administrator must lookwithin Choose and Book to determine whether the booking succeeded and then trigger theprocessing within the service provider system to complete the booking (as if a positiveApplication Acknowledgement had been received) or to unreserved the slot (as if a negativeApplication Acknowledgement had been received). Suppliers should bear in mind that theApplication Acknowledgement may still be delivered after Manual Resolution has occurred –see section 4.11 for expected behaviour of the Service Provider System in this instance.V6-S18V6-S19If the Service Provider system does not receive an ApplicationAcknowledgement from Choose and Book within the ApplicationAcknowledgment Timeout Period then the Slot must remain reserved and beflagged to the administrator for manual resolutionManual resolution requires the system administrator to complete the bookingor to release the slot, as if an Application Acknowledgement with a success orfailure code had been received. If, after the Application Acknowledgment Timeout Period has elapsed, the Service Providersystem receives a message interaction that indicates the previous Confirm AppointmentPRSC_IN050000Uknn was not received by Choose and Book, then it can automaticallytrigger the processing to unreserve the slot as if a negative application acknowledgementoccurred. Messages that indicate this situation are the receipt of a Request AppointmentConfirmation PRSC_IN040000UKnn for the same slot (i.e. USRN) or same UBRN.V6-S20If the Service Provider subsequently receives a message interaction thatindicates the previous Confirm Appointment PRSC_IN050000Uknn was notreceived by Choose and Book, then it can automatically trigger the processing tounreserved the slot as if a negative application acknowledgement had beenreceived.6.4.6 PDS ProcessingThe Service Provider system may cache patient demographic details locally within theirdatabase and so the patient may need to be registered or have their details updated.Integration with the PDS is required to achieve this because the Request AppointmentConfirmation PRSC_IN040000UKnn message interaction from Choose and Book does notcontain patient demographics, i.e. the optional demographics in the message definition arenot filled in by Choose and Book, only the NHS Number is present.A design consideration here is at what point should the PDS query be performed? Therequirement is that it does not form part of the synchronous processing in the ServiceProvider System that is required to respond to the Request Appointment ConfirmationPRSC_IN040000UKnn from Choose and Book. The PDS query must be performed eitherasynchronously or in response to the subsequent Application Acknowledgement.V6-S21The Service Provider system must retrieve patient demographics from thePDS asynchronously to the processing of the Request Appointment ConfirmationPRSC_IN040000UKnn.The flow of events is:Choose and BookAtos Origin - Commercial In ConfidenceChoose and Book ComplianceVersion: 8 (final)Reference EBS-AN\BA\BA011 9 May 2007Page 64
