instructs the service provider system to do the same.This is a ‘synchronous’ message interaction and the end user is awaiting a response fromthe Service Provider System so a rapid turnaround is essential.6.5.1 Request Appointment Cancellation PRSC_IN070000UKnnThe act of cancelling an appointment in Choose and Book, or of rejecting a referral which willthen result in the cancellation of the appointment, causes a Request AppointmentCancellation to be sent to the Service Provider System.For Version 2 compliant systems, then if the Choose and Book MHS times-out sending themessage it will perform retry logic up to the Number of Retries and then notify Choose andBook of a failure to send the message. The Choose and Book application will notify the userand allow them to retry the original request.Notes on field values:• RequestAppointmentCancellation:ID is the mandatory UBRN. Note that themessage does not carry the USRN in MiM2.3.• RequestAppointmentCancellation:ReasonCode is the mandatory reason why theappointment is being cancelled and is populated from the reason selected by theChoose and Book user when they cancel the appointment. From this the ServiceProvider can determine whether it is patient choice that is the cause (e.g. to calculatewaiting times). MiM vocabulary is no longer used but instead replaced by a set ofNHS standard codes. See Reference 9 for the full list of Cancellation Reasonsintroduced in Choose and Book release 3.5; these include specific codes for rejectedreferrals and redirected referrals.• PertinentInformation:PertinentAppointmentSlot in MiM3.1.09 is the USRN, which ismandatory despite being optional in the MiM definition.• Component:CorrespondenceSuppression is not supported by Choose and Book.6.5.2 Confirm Appointment Cancellation PRSC_IN140000UKnnIf the Service Provider is able to cancel the appointment then it returns the ConfirmAppointment Cancellation interaction, but does not cancel the appointment at that point. Theappointment must be placed into a “pre-cancelled” state, the slot is not yet released forbooking, and no correspondence generated.The term “pre-cancelled” is used to represent the behaviour required in the Service Providersystem to ensure that the appointment is flagged as in the process of being cancelled, butthat the process is not yet confirmed. Only on confirmation from Choose and Book is theappointment cancelled, the slot released and correspondence sent.
