Academic R~gulationsSTUDENT ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITY 'You are resporisible for adhering to the statement on ', stu~~nt acadern,ic responsibility found in the' ,General Academic RegL/lationssectiQn of this Calendar. 'In addition to the regulations in- the General Academic Regulationssection of , this Calendar, ~he following Program regulations apply.MINOR ' ' ,A minor is an option available to a student enrolled in a four- or fivelevelprogram. A minor consists of aminimum cif 24 units in theminor subject. No more than six of these units can be at Level I,unless,otherwise stated in the specific requirernents of the mklOr. Astudent is responsible for registering for cOl:lrses to be applied,towards a minor using elective units onlY. In the case of cross-listedcourses, students must ensure that they register in the appropriatesubjectfor the minor designation. Those whohavethe necessarY, requirements may apply for recognition of that minor when theygraduate: 'If recognition for a minor is granted, this recognition will,be', recorded on the student's transcript. Minors cannot be revoked. once approved. Students may return for, a second degree in thesubject in which they have obtained a minor, but only at the, Honours! level. For further information please r~ferto Minors in the' GeneralAcademic Regulations section in this Calendar., CONTINUATION IN THE PROGRAM ', Students must have a CA of 6.0 to continue in the program. If aCA of 5.5 to '5.9 is obtained,' a student may remain in the program,but will be placed on program probation for one revieVl(ing period.A studentmay b~ on program ,Probation only once~ ,,',',, If a GA of 3.5 to 5.4 is obtained"a student must transfer toanother program for whichhe/shequalifies, or register in the, B.H.Sc~ (Honours) Program as ah irregular, student for one re;"viewing period. During that period a student cannot take B.H.Sc. "(Honours) Program courses. At the end of" that period a studentmay apply for readmission to the, B.H.Sc. (Honours) ,Program. ,, If 'a CA of 3.0 to 3.4 is obtained, a student will be placed on academic:proba!ion.. A student may continue iF! the program for onereviewing peripd as an irregular student but cannot take B.H.Sc.(Honours) Program courses. The purpose of this period is to pre-: pare a student for a program outside the B.H.Sc. (Honours) Pro-,gram. Students seeking reinstatement, should completethe Reinstatement Request Form available at the Office of the<strong>Registrar</strong> (Gilmour Hall, Room 108). The completed form andthe $50.00 f,eemust be submitted t() the Office of ' the <strong>Registrar</strong> byJ,uly15 for September entry and November 30 for Janu~ry e!1try., The form should explain the reasons for the student's inadequateperformance, corroborated by two letters ,of support, and'should, also ,include-relevant documentary evidence such as, for 'example,, a physician's letter documenting an illness that may have im-'pacted upon the student's prior academic performance. Heinstatementcases will be carefully screened and the evidence con""sidered will include the student's academic performanceb,eforeand following admission to <strong>McMaster</strong>, as well as thEl nature of thereasons cited in the letter, the letters of support and the accompanyingdocumentation. Reinstatement is nqt guaranteed. , 'If students are reins~ated to the <strong>University</strong>, their Cumulative Averagewill be re-set to 0.0 on zero units, although students may,at,the discretion of the Faculty" retain credit for prior work. DeGroote School of Medicine in 2004, 'offers majorprograms in undergraduate, postgraduate 'and graduate medi­,cal education. ',The clinical programs use not only the teachinghospital and ambulatory care and rese'arch facilities at the<strong>McMaster</strong> <strong>University</strong> Medical Centre division of Hamilton Health \SCiences, but also the clinical, teaching units at several of the, major Hamilton hospitals and communityhealth-ca~e centres.The Undergraduate" Medical Progra'm for the MD degree wasinitiated in 1969, graduating its- first students in May 1972. Atpresent, 138 students' are admitted to the program each year.
