The DrifterThe SocialSceneBy Julia LynnSocial DirectorTouring season is finally here. At last wehave great weather to get your Porscheout of the garage and onto the road. Mikeand Emily Willis hosted the San SimeonTour in May and it was a wonderful time. This was my first long tour and I had afabulous time. We had a great drive downto Hollister to our picnic spot, and everyonebrought a lunch and got to know eachother better while enjoying some goodfood and company. Then we parted offinto two groups—the “fast” group and the“not-so-fast” group. Now that doesn’t meanwe were wimps (I guess you know whichgroup I went in), just slightly slower! JeffKinder was kind enough to lead our groupand it was a very fun drive—a few too manypot holes to dodge, but otherwise greeat!Once we arrived in San Simeon, we hadan informal get together at the CourtesyInn and had some food and wine. Somewent on to dinners and some called thatdinner. Everyone had Saturday to winetaste, sightsee and visit neighboring towns. At five o’clock Saturday night we got togetherfor our Club dinner and met up atHearst Castle for the evening tour. What aspectacular place. I hadn’t been there sinceI was thirteen years old … just 10 years …no, 20 … no, 30 years ago! I think our busdriver, who took us up and down the hill, must be a Porsche driver at heart, becausehe went around the bends like one, at leastby my account! The Village Bar & Grille served up anothergreat dinner. I was not able to attendthat one, but heard it was great. Thanks toFrederick & Susan Rauch for putting thedinner together for us.Herb & Jan Hoover hosted the ChocolateTour for us on June 26. A superb luncheonwas ready for our group at the CaféCocoa, complete with a decedent chocolatedessert. This month’s dinner meeting will be atVince’s Italian Restaurant in Elk Grove. Besure to note the different date from our usualschedule: this one will be on Wednesday,July 6. There will be a great steak, chickenmarsala or prawns to choose from. Pleasecontact Shelley Busuttil for your reservationat 916-686-2161.Karen’s Bakery will be having anotherNo Host Breakfast for us Saturday, July 16from 7:30-9:30 am. They are located at 705Gold Lake Drive in Folsom. Come on outand enjoy some great food! It is a great wayto start a Porsche day.Rick Weidner and his crew have beenworking hard planning an awesome trip tothe Mammoth area. Mammoth PorscheHappening is the name; fun is the game!If you have been thinking of taking a tourwith the Club, but haven’t done it so far, here’s your chance to go on a great one thatis sure to be repeated. There will be lots todo: hiking, swimming, touring in your P-car(what could be better?), beautiful scenery, great food. Need I say more? The date isJuly 29-31. Call Rik Larson for your reservationat 916-481-6084 (6-9 pm, please). In August Carl Brakensiek and DougKlein are planning the Caples Lake,Winery & Silver Fork Tour. This will be aone-day tour through the foothills of theShenandoah Valley, stopping for a privatetasting at Latcham Vineyards! There aresome scenic and twisting roads to travel upHighway 88 to the beautiful Caples Lake, where there will be a BYOL (Bring YourOwn Lunch) picnic with a special prizefor the most creative picnic presentation!Reservations are limited to 25 cars, andthe tour fee is $10 per car. Call Carl at916-612-3274 or Doug at 916-791-4864for your reservation.I just wanted to add that we should supportour Drifter advertisers when possible.I needed some new tires on Skippy andused OK Tires to do the deed. They didan excellent job and did the “show” mount(I told them how Porsche-ticular I was),which means they hand torque the lugs andpointed my crest to the valve stem. Nicejob. I also visited Dale at European AutoBody and he made Skippy more handsomethan he already is. (A woman never discussescosmetic issues!) And I paid a visit toFrank’s Automotive to get those tires dialedin with a perfect alignment. That made theSan Simeon drive pure pleasure! Hum … Ithink my Porsche budget is used up for themonth! If you want to become more involved inthe Club, this is a great opportunity. Also, ifyou would like to host a tour event, pleaselet me know and I can help you get thatstarted.9
