Spring Driving &Garage TourBy Kim NelsonTour OperatorOn Saturday May 7, the “Porsche gods” weredefinitely looking down and smiling upon the90-plus members from SVR and 356 CARwho gathered to take a driving tour and viewthe beautiful car collection of Stephan &Vicki Childs. It rained for 4 days before and3 days after the event, but on May 7 the suncame out and blessed us with temperatures inthe mid 70s. Ah, isn’t life wonderful!Wow, what a garage...and the cars aren’t bad either!Rich Swenson laid out the driving toursand Judy Hanna, Jim McMahen and JeffKinder were our leaders. After RachelCocuzzi and Linda McMahen got the 90-some people registered, 54 Porsches tookoff in three groups at 10 am and made theirway through the Sierra Foothills, meeting upat Montevina Winery for a quick rest stop. From there it was a short 20-mile blast onsome of the best Porsche Roads in NorthernCalifornia to the front gate of the Childshome. Once everyone was parked the realOver 90 members were assembled and ready to rollmade. The Childs’ collection includes a 1957Speedster, a 1965 VW with a 356 engine, a1968 911 T/R, a 1971 911 Targa, two 1973Carrera RSs, a 2001 Twin Turbo and a 2005Carrera GT. And the best part of all is thatthese cars are driven on a regular basis; they’renot just garage queens. If you missed the tour this year you justhave to hope that Stephan & Vicki willextend an offer in the future for a repeatperformance. If so, I just have a hunch thatthey will have a few more goodies to showus. A special thank you goes to Stephan& Vicki for very graciously opening theirbeautiful home to us, and also to Judy Hannaand Rich Swenson without whose help theday’s activities would not have been nearlyso special.Stephan & Vicki Childs open their beautifulhome and garage to SVRall photos by Kim NelsonMembers enjoyed a relaxing afternoon BBQfun began.
