The Finish Line(continued from page 19)our professional careers as well. By the timewe contacted then-President Kim Nelson, outgoing Webmaster Doug DeVetter hadalready recruited Mark Sides to replace him,but Steve Goltz had decided to step downas Editor. Well, you all know how persuasiveKim can be, and he and past Editor DennisStettner and others seemed to have moreconfidence than we did that we could do thejob well. The rest, as they say, is history.Your next Editors, Nicolas & LindseyHarrigan have a similar story, minus Kim’sfriendly arm twisting. They just joined PCA inOctober 2004, and some of you may have metthem on the San Simeon Tour in May. Theyapparently caught SVR fever somewherealong the way, because when they got backfrom San Simeon they called us up to findout more about the Editor’s job. You’d thinkwe would jump all over that after a couple ofmonths of fishing for successors with no bites, and you’d be right, except we were caught in anespecially busy week that left us with no goodtime to return the call. You might think thatdelay would have discouraged these newbies, but you’d be wrong. In fact, the Harriganswere so enthusiastic that they tried to reach usagain after a couple of days had passed. Finally,Elliot reached them and described the job …and they still wanted to do it!Many ThanksWe are so grateful to so many people for thesupport and encouragement we’ve received inthis role. Dennis Stettner spent an afternoonwith us going over the tools and the process toget us started, and continued to coach us hereand there along the way. Larry Wilson sharedwisdom gained in his work with the Nationalnewsletter. Doug DeVetter, Phil Lawrence,Doug Klein, Kim Nelson, and many otherssent us their event photos. Board memberssent us their monthly articles, and a numberof you sent in one-time articles to share yourexperiences with your Porsches and your Clubwith everyone. Rik Larson provided plenty ofcontent, and proofed every issue both beforewe went to print and before the printer went topress. We were always running late, and he wasalways graciously flexible. His were the “otherset of eyes” that caught many things that wedidn’t, and his many years of experience in theClub were invaluable at times.During our tenure, many of you went outof your way to express your enjoyment of ourwork and thanks for our efforts. That encouragementhelped make all the hard work feelworthwhile, and we really appreciate all yourkind words. We know you will welcome andsupport Nicolas & Lindsey just as enthusiasticallyas they take on the labor of love that isThe Drifter. And don’t forget that one of themost important ways to show your appreciationfor your Editors is to make their jobseasier. Keep those photos and articles coming, and get them in by the 1 st of the month. Finally, we offer a huge thank you to Nick& Lindsey for taking over this importantwork, and freeing us to focus on other thingsfor a while. I plan to devote some muchneededattention to my career, while Elliotlooks forward to doing more photography andcatching up on some home maintenance andimprovement projects. Who knows? Maybesomething will finally happen with that TR6in the garage! What we don’t plan on doingis disappearing from SVR. We will still seeyou all at dinners and on tours, and we wantto give rallying another try. I have no doubtthat you’ll still see Elliot’s photos decoratingthe pages of The Drifter and that we’ll serveon the Board again after the new Editors areup to speed and we’ve had some time to enjoybeing “just members” for a while.Drifter Classifieds for Porsches and/or Porsche-related parts or accessories are available at no charge to PCA members (pictures with text are $15 each); non-members may submit ads, $20each; pictures with text add $15 each (member & non-member).
