event witnessed by 70,000 people.EARLY EVENTSThere was a tremendousovation as the Stars and Stripes were hoisted in front <strong>of</strong>the <strong>of</strong>ficers box, while the <strong>Highlanders</strong> Band played the&quot;Star Spangled Banner.&quot; From one <strong>of</strong> the floats takingpart in the procession, white doves, emblematic <strong>of</strong> Peace,were released, and flew around the great arena. From themoment <strong>of</strong> the arrival <strong>of</strong> the regiment when it was greetedby booming guns from the warships in the harbour till there-embarkation for home, a large-hearted hospitality characterized the oc<strong>ca</strong>sion.An outstanding feature <strong>of</strong> 1912 was the review at Brockton Point by the Governor-General, H. R. H. the Duke <strong>of</strong>Connaught, on Thursday, September 19th. On this oc<strong>ca</strong>sionthe Duke presented the regiment with its colours, the gift<strong>of</strong> the Imperial Order Daughters <strong>of</strong> the Empire. When H.R. H. arrived on the previous day, he was met at the C. P.R. Station by a guard <strong>of</strong> honour supplied by the Sixth Regiment, the Duke being Hon. Colonel. On arrival at the Courthouse, the Vice-regal party was greeted by a guard <strong>of</strong> honour composed <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Seaforth</strong>s. Their smartprecision was much admired by onlookers, and was evidently appreciated by the Governor-General.But the review <strong>of</strong> the Vancouver garrison at BrocktonPoint on the following day proved the greatest event <strong>of</strong> thekind ever witnessed in British Columbia. The day was ideal.The honour <strong>of</strong> the right <strong>of</strong> the line was given to the Veteransand they were the first to be inspected. Then in succession<strong>ca</strong>me the Sixth Canadian Engineers <strong>of</strong> North Vancouver,the Sixth Regiment, the <strong>72nd</strong> <strong>Seaforth</strong> <strong>Highlanders</strong>, theEighteenth Field Ambulance, the Boy Scouts and the Cadets. The <strong>Seaforth</strong>s then formed three sides <strong>of</strong> a hollowsquare, and on the completion <strong>of</strong> the movement, the Chaplain <strong>of</strong> the regiment, the Rev. Dr. Mackay, stepped intothe enclosure, while the drummers constructed a drum-headpulpit. Two stalwart <strong>Highlanders</strong> bearing the new coloursthen marched to the front, and the ceremony <strong>of</strong> consecrat-
