Appendix 1: Excerpts from <strong>The</strong> Manual, 2007<br />
340 Interim Ministers. <strong>The</strong> Presbytery shall have authority to appoint Interim Ministers.<br />
(a) When the Presbytery is considering the appointment <strong>of</strong> an individual to a specific Interim<br />
Ministry, the individual shall provide to the Presbytery, at the individual’s expense, a current<br />
vulnerable sector (level 2) police records check. <strong>The</strong> Presbytery shall then arrange <strong>for</strong> an<br />
interview between the individual and the Interim Ministry <strong>Transition</strong> Committee. (2007)<br />
(b) A recommendation <strong>for</strong> the appointment <strong>of</strong> the individual to the Pastoral Charge, Mission, or<br />
Outreach Ministry shall be made by the Interim Ministry <strong>Transition</strong> Committee to the Official<br />
Board or <strong>Church</strong> Board or <strong>Church</strong> Council. If the recommendation is supported by the Official<br />
Board or <strong>Church</strong> Board or <strong>Church</strong> Council, it is then presented to the Presbytery on behalf <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Pastoral Charge, Mission, or Outreach Ministry.<br />
(c) <strong>The</strong> Presbytery shall make a Decision with regard to the appointment.<br />
(d) <strong>The</strong> Presbytery shall provide an act <strong>of</strong> covenant where a new pastoral relationship is established.<br />
(e) <strong>The</strong> Interim Minister shall not be available to serve the Pastoral Charge, Mission, or Outreach<br />
Ministry in any call, settlement, or appointment that immediately follows the completion <strong>of</strong> the<br />
appointment as Interim Minister.<br />
054.1 Interim Ministry <strong>Transition</strong> Committee.<br />
(a) Membership. <strong>The</strong> Interim Ministry <strong>Transition</strong> Committee shall include:<br />
i. one (1) or two (2) representatives <strong>of</strong> the Presbytery appointed by the Presbytery Pastoral<br />
Relations Committee; and<br />
ii. five (5) to seven (7) representatives in full membership <strong>of</strong> the Pastoral Charge, appointed by<br />
the membership <strong>of</strong> the Pastoral Charge or by the Official Board or <strong>Church</strong> Board or <strong>Church</strong><br />
Council <strong>of</strong> the Pastoral Charge.<br />
(b) Committee Process. <strong>The</strong> first meeting <strong>of</strong> the Interim Ministry <strong>Transition</strong> Committee shall be<br />
convened by a Presbytery representative, and shall fix its own quorum, which shall in no case be<br />
lower than four (4), including at least one (1) representative <strong>of</strong> the Presbytery and at least three<br />
(3) representatives <strong>of</strong> the Pastoral Charge. <strong>The</strong> Committee shall determine its own process.<br />
(c) Review and Evaluation. During the period <strong>of</strong> the Interim Ministry, the Interim Ministry <strong>Transition</strong><br />
Committee shall:<br />
i. review and develop the goals <strong>of</strong> the Interim Ministry, and monitor and evaluate activities that<br />
enable the Pastoral Charge to work on those goals;<br />
ii. be represented on the Official Board or <strong>Church</strong> Board or <strong>Church</strong> Council <strong>for</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong><br />
liaison and reporting, including progress reports;<br />
iii. participate in the evaluation <strong>of</strong> the Interim Ministry at its conclusion; and<br />
iv. participate in the evaluation <strong>of</strong> the work <strong>of</strong> the Interim Minister at the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Interim Ministry.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Interim Ministry <strong>Transition</strong> Committee does not replace the Ministry and Personnel Committee<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Official Board or <strong>Church</strong> Board or <strong>Church</strong> Council. (2007)<br />
