COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CASE TOOLSFUNCTIONALITY COMPATIBLE WITH UML 2.0 NOTATIONJarosław BeckerHigher Vocational State School in Gorzów WlkpTechnical InstituteAbstract: In the article was conducted the review of methodology andcomparison of available CASE tools (Computer-Aided SoftwareEngineering) that use UML 2.0 notation in the process of object-orientedmodelling of information systems. The result of conducted researches includesthe ranking of CASE tools functionality that allows distinguishingleaders in a group of commercial (chargeable) and open source (free ofcharge) products. In the researches was used a simple additive method ofassigning suitable weight with SPMC model (Single Participant MultipleCriteria).Key words: formal methodology, agile methodology, CASE tools, UML 2.0,object-oriented modelling of information technology systems.1. INTRODUCTIONSince the half of the 1990s, just with the increasing popularity of the objectorientatedprogramming, there has been observed a major development of methodologyand modelling tools of information technology systems (CASE) compatiblewith the object-orientated paradigm. Since then the structural modelling – has beenmore and more often driven out by UML (Unified Modelling Language).Technological development directed towards the object-oriented approach contributedto the popularity of real time systems and Internet systems. The developmentincluded such categories as: e-business, e-learning or e-health. Huge influence onthe stimulation of object-oriented technology had integration processes of managementinformation technology systems used in practice for such areas as trade, banking, logistics and education. [Wrycza S. and others]The aim of the article is the comparative analysis of CASE tools functionalitythat support modelling of information technology systems in UML 2.0 notation.Research results include the ranking of CASE tools and it was prepared from theview of DSS generator engineering needs (decision support systems). It is to distinguishsolutions which in the best way support the adaptation process of generatorconstruction and allow precisely coping and documenting its architecture withthe use of the round-trip engineering.7
