Planning Aheadby Linnea MaxwellAt the end of June, I will be headed to Boston for my firstConvention. My roommate will be another Beta Psi initiatewho is the Albuquerque delegate. Aside from getting to see aRed Sox game, I’m most looking forward to networkingwith other alumnae and finding out what has been successfulin their chapters.I hope to bring back lots of ideas, and get together with ourboard and others interested in playing a role in our AlumnaeChapter for a meeting in early to mid-July.Georgia Eubank and I enjoy being co-presidents, and we willcontinue for another year, but at this time next year, one orboth of us should cycle out of office and make room forsomeone else. Who will it be? No need to make acommitment right now, but if you are interested in helpingin any way, we welcome your input. Here are a few agenda items to think about:• Dues were reduced from $20 to $15 when Beta Psiclosed. We need to revisit this amount and decideif it is realistic. I’m curious to find out what otherchapters charge.• Last year we held a Bunco party in September as afundraiser for the Walk To Defeat ALS, and as partof National Woman’s Friendship Month. Everyoneseemed to have a good time. Do we want to makethis a regular event? Do we want to continuesupporting ALS, or perhaps another organization?• The Heard Museum will host a traveling GeorgiaO’Keeffe exhibit from late September until January,2014. We’ve been hoping to combine Founders’Day with a museum tour, but the cost to rent aroom at the Heard is prohibitive. We need somegood ideas.• Form a special interest group of younger women. This would not be a separate alumnae chapter (aswas started and failed a few years ago), butoccasional activities geared toward the needs ofrecent grads, moms with young kids, etc. All ittakes is someone willing to spearhead the effort. Is there anything else about the Phoenix Alumnae Chapterthat you would like to suggest? Oh yes, we never got aroundto having a wine tasting party this year. Watch your e-mailfor an invitation to a board meeting, perhaps with wine!• We dropped our membership in PhoenixPanhellenic at the same time. They have asked usabout rejoining, and the general feeling is that weshould do it when we have a chapter again. There isa small cost to joining, about $40 a year dependingon the size of our chapter, but more important, weneed to identify someone who wants to be thePanhellenic delegate.• We need another person to help with or co-chairphilanthropy. This will allow us to decide if wewant to continue with Wilson School as our onlyphilanthropy, or help other organizations such asthe Girl Scouts.Pamela Elms, National Executive Director, visited Phoenix and (BackRow) Sharon Shurtz, Pamela, Kathleen Ybarra, Linnea Maxwell,(Front Row) Stacie Garlieb, Margaret Cohea, Georgia Eubank, andAbbie Thiss stopped by for coffee with her at the Biltmore.KD Board ContactsPresidents: ( Linnea Maxwell( ( linneamaxwell@cox.net( ( 480-688-7799( ( ( &( ( Georgia Eubank( ( reubanksr@qwest.net( ( 480-539-7997Secretary ( Sharon ShurtzE-Mail( SharonS5@cox.netInvitations:( 480-949-1226Lunch( Barbara BensonBunch:( barsben@q.com( ( 602-493-1303Treasurer: ( Barbara Franzman( ( sethandbarb@aol.com( ( 602-944-94694Philanthropy Candy SchadleChair:(( aschadle@gmail.com( ( 480-836-0442Pin Notes( Marge FultonEditor:( margefulton@cox.net( ( 480-948-6649
