The Journal Spring 2012 6 It’s hard to believe that this is my last Chairman of the Chamber article. Just a few short years ago when I was Chairman it seems as if I had so many more to write and so much more often. Oh yeah, we did have. All of us who were Chair “persons” had one a month. This term as Chairman I have 4. That is 8 less that Lara has to go through, fix my punctuation, correct my political errors and make sure the words that make it from my little pea brain to this word document actually fit into the little box it is supposed to. When any of us pass a gavel we always wonder how history will look at our tenure. Even now it’s hard for me to remember what happened last week, let alone how my Chairmanship from years ago will be remembered, however as we look back at this year perhaps we can find something to remember me by. How about the fact that our little Chamber Newspaper now reaches over 27,000 people every month. Is that impressive or what? That happened while I was Chairman! That is something to remember me by….well perhaps not. That bOb taylOr Chairman of the board Just a few words before I go . . . was in the works long before I became Chairman. Look at what you are reading this in. Isn’t this great! We now have a magazine newsletter that comes out quarterly with EVERY member listed. This is it….well no; this also was planned long before I was asked to step in. Can you believe how attendance has been at all of our events!! Just about everything we have done has been sold out. Even with Board attendance, Stan who knows more about what has happened with the Chamber Board than any 3 or 4 of us combined commented that he has never seen such attendance. For the first time in history, we had 2 meetings in a row with only one person missing. Can I take credit for that, no I guess I cannot. Over 25 Years Let’s see, I was needed for exactly what I did. I filled a quick void between Michael Lavenant and Charles Sandlin. I was needed to give Jennifer and staff just a little more time to gel so that we as a Chamber could become what we are today. That is what I did. Since this is my last article I really need to say what the Chamber has done for me. Allowing me the opportunity to serve as Chairman pulled me out of a tunnel that some never come out of. Giving me the venue to be needed allowed me to move forward and start working towards serving others. Just watching Jennifer lead has confirmed to me what I have always thought leadership to be that others do not see. Perhaps history will not remember anything I did last time as Chairman and there is no reason what so ever why the books will say Bob did this or that at this point. However I think I will be remembered by the time I am done. Stan, be ready to record one. Those of you who make it to our luncheon on June 21 will get to see one for the books. My promise to you!
