S&S® SUPER STOCK® CYLINDER HEADS1966-’84 BIG TWIN ENGINESSuper Stock replacement heads for 1966 to 1984shovelhead engines maintain a stock appearancefor restoration purposes but offer improved portdesigns for better performance.OVERALL CONSTRUCTIONAs with other S&S heads, our CNC machining maintains dimensionalaccuracy and reduces cost. This allows us to offer the finest possibleparts at a reasonable price.While stock heads use studs to attach the rocker box assemblies,S&S heads utilize 5⁄16”-18 hex-head bolts. Rocker cover bolts areincluded with each complete head kit. Otherwise, S&S headsaccept all stock-style components.PORTS AND COMBUSTION CHAMBERIntake and exhaust ports are in the stock locations and are thesame size as stock. Stock intake manifolds and exhaust pipes areeasily installed with no modification required. Heads are availablefor both the 1966-’78 o-ring and 1979-’84 rubber band-typemanifolds. Since S&S heads are compatible with stock manifolds,special manifolds are not required except for engines with tallerthan stock cylinders.S&S intake ports feature a directional vane to route the incomingfuel-air mixture around the valve guide and valve stem for improvedperformance. At 1.940”, intake valves are the same diameter as stock,but exhaust valve diameter (1.720”) has been reduced by .030” toimprove valve to valve clearance for cams with high TDC lifts andto improve flow. A stock-like hemispherical combustion chamberis compatible with all standard pistons for shovel engines.SIMPLE INSTALLATIONBecause S&S cylinder heads have stock dimensions, they readily bolton with a stock-like fit with no clearance problems with frames andstandard exhausts. Complete kits include all gaskets required forinstallation except intake manifold seals.COMPLETE ASSEMBLIESS&S cylinder heads for shovelheads are sold complete, assembledwith premium components. Installed parts include valve seats,guides, seals, valves, valve springs, collars, and keepers. Complete kitsalso include rocker cover gaskets, head and exhaust pipe gaskets, allrequired hardware, and instructions.VALVE TRAIN COMPONENTSValve train components used in S&S cylinder heads for shovelheadengines are specifically selected for durability under contemporary,real-life conditions. They are compatible with present unleadedfuels. Valve springs can handle .590” total lift.
