S&S® STANDARD BILLET OIL PUMP INFORMATIONS&S oil pumps are CNC machined from solidaluminum billets. This material has exceptionalstrength and is entirely free of voids or defects.<strong>The</strong> result is a superior quality pump that looks asgood as it performs. <strong>The</strong> end product is a series of oilpump kits which provides 1936-’99 big twin ownerswith state of the art technology.Pictured: Oil pump kits with gears are offered primarily for "scratch built"applications where the builder needs all these parts.Intended as a direct replacement oil pump assembly, theS&S pump incorporates some unique S&S design features. Tocompliment the S&S pump, we have engineered a series ofoil pump drive and breather gears which enables the owner/builder to realize the full potential from the S&S design. <strong>The</strong>separts are available in convenient kits which make it easy to ordereverything you need at one time.S&S oil pump kits are available for three basic year groups,1936-’72, 1973-’91 and 1992-’99. Installations on engines from1936-’69 can be a simple bolt on, or the oiling system can beupdated with simple drilling steps with the S&S drilling fixture.Engines from 1973-’80 require a simple drilling step and enginesfrom 1970-’72 require an additional plugging step: both stepscan be performed while the engine is in the chassis. (SeeNOTES) Installations on 1981-up engines are strictly bolt on andrequire no crankcase modifications. Easy to follow installationinstructions are provided with every kit.SPECIAL DESIGN FEATURES:▼ All pumps use the same width oil supply and return gears asthe stock Harley-Davidson® aluminum pump for maximumcompatibility.▼ S&S pumps for 1936-’67 engines used with the S&S oil pumpdrive gears deliver 33% more oil than the original cast ironpump.▼ S&S pinion and oil pump drive shaft drive gears increase oilvolume delivered by 25% over stock on 1972 and earlier engines.(See NOTES on following page.)▼ Early engines last longer because of better lubrication andcooling. Marginal oil volume to operate the hydraulic lifters isno longer a problem. (See NOTES on following page.)▼ All pumps are machined with an oil pressure relief bleed offpassageway to the cavity above the oil pressure relief valve.This relieves pressure build up on top of the valve to maintainconsistent oil pressure from the time the engine is started to thetime it’s shut off. (See NOTES on following page.)▼ <strong>The</strong> oil pressure bypass route on all pumps allows excess oil notused by the engine to return directly to the supply side of thepump thereby eliminating excessive oil returned to the tankand possible cavitation. (See NOTES on following page.)▼ S&S billet oil pump covers are available in two versions for bothearly (1936-’91) and late (1992-’99) styles. <strong>The</strong> standard coverallows total flexibility for oil system configuration with a numberof oil feed and return options. <strong>The</strong> custom application coversare intended for custom motorcycles where a clean, simpleappearance with a minimum of oil lines is desired. Customapplication covers have one feed and one return hole in thebottom of the cover only. Complete oil pump kits are availablewith standard and custom covers .
