We were ableto write our own poetry inspired by these techniqueswhich helped us to think more about stylesof writing and which ones we found most effective.We also had a private session with Ms. Levistonwhich was useful as we were able to talk about ourpoems specifically and she was very helpful in givingus ideas and tips about writing. At the end of theweek family and friends were invited to a reading ofthe work we had done over the sessions. Dr RachelRich began the programme by delivering a fascinatingtalk entitled Women, Morals and Manners in theEighteenth Century, drawing comparisons betweenconventions and attitudes in England and France atthat time.Eva Clarke addressed students from allyears on Our Family’s Story, her moving account ofher family’s experiences in the Holocaust.Henry VIII’s Castles was the subject of an illustratedtalk by John Harris, former lecturer in the Historyof Architecture at Middlesex University, who iswriting a book on the subject.Tom Beardmore-Gray, Director of Financeand Operations for the GDST, with a degree inHistory, kindly offered to share his knowledge ofRussia’s past and his experience of doing business inRussia in a lecture entitled Russia – a glass half-fullor half-empty?Last, but certainly not least, Dr PaulinaKewes from Jesus College, Oxford delivered anabsorbing lecture on Images of Mary Tudor andElizabeth, as well as explaining the benefits of a jointdegree in History and English at Oxford.Our History Society Committee and other interestedsixth formers meet with our speakers for an
