On a Wednesday, if you’re bored and thereare a couple of hours looming in front of you, thenCOME TO SCI-SOC! The amount of fun we have isunimaginable. If anybody out there is worried aboutthe experiments going wrong, there is no need tofear. We have a professional and expert teacher, ablyassisted by Mrs Ezike, and Ellie and Mariana fromYear 12. They make sure we are wearing lab coats,goggles and gloves and are ready to mop upspillages and help us handle hot items safely. Everyexperiment is safe – though that doesn’t mean itwon’t be fun! If you would like to join in, comealong any Wednesday at 1.40 in Lab 90.Molly W, Alex W and Riya G, Year 7The SHHS Archive SocietyThe SHHS Archive Society has been reformed andwill be formally reconstituted with a chair, secretaryand treasurer, elected from the Sixth Form at thebeginning of the Autumn Term 2011, as executiveboard. Their brief is to research and maintain a historicalrecord of the school, to learn and put intopractice committee skills of management andadministration at regular meetings.It is with a loud hurrah we announce thatMargaret Cullen has accepted the honorary post ofPresident of the Society. Erstwhile Head of Englishand Head of Sixth Form Mrs Cullen is regardedwith affection and esteem for the wonderful contributionshe has made to the school and is herself apart of its distinguished history.We aim to introduce a varied programme ofactivities, events, and talks throughout the year.Miranda Ravetto-Wood, LibrarianPoet in residence, Frances LevistonYear 7 & 8 Art ClubEvery Wednesday lunchtime, four members of theLower Sixth run an art club for Years 7 and 8. Weaim to provide them with fun, creative projectswhich they wouldn’t normally do within the curriculum.So far we have made fashion mood boards,cat masks, Halloween-themed cupcakes, and mostrecently they designed their own makeup and nailson templates. We love the relaxed atmosphere andthink that for the younger years, getting to knowthe Sixth Formers is a really positive experience.Georgia L and Martha H, Year 12Creative writingFrances Leviston, a renowned poet, came to theschool to do tutorials, exercises and workshopswith girls from throughout the school. Eight othergirls and I, all of different ages, but all interested inpoetry, were treated to a seven session masterclass.
